you can see that AK-176 is taken off
the ak-630s seem to still be on there.
I also see a dual naval gun in the front
and a Z-8 on the helipad.

Re: Type 071 LPD

I would imagine to see 3 more of these monsters deployed by 2010. with these 4 acting as command and over the horizon landing ships compounded with the 70+ med and heavy landing ships plus another 100 large merchant ships that could be quickly mobilised and ready for military ops the capability to launch a massive invasion pending **air superiority** has been gained could be launched and more than 20,000 elite airborne and marine shock troops could be on taiwan within 48 hours backed by 100+ top of the line main battle tanks. This 20,000 man force would be a all volunteer force that would be much more aggressive, trained and motivated than the ROC conscripts. IF air superiority is gained and Q-5,SU-30,Mig-21,J-10 and JH-7 are providing close air support with laser guided bombs and rockets then attack helos things will get out of hand pretty quickly.

Taiwan will need to act quickly to sustain its status as a free nation. It is paramount that ROC upgrades its F-16 and Mirage 2000 fleet with more BVR missile and have a well trained force of ground based Harpoon if air superiority is lost

Is that gun a new one? Doesn't look like 76A or 76F

it's a little too far out for me to see clearly, but they are developing new naval guns as I posted in the past.

==Bad idea, in fact, any attempt to resist unification through military means is a bad idea. The military expenditure of PRC in 2006 is 49.5 billion USD, 2% of China's GDP that year, while the military expenditure of Taiwan is 6.9 billion USD, 2.2% of its GDP. And, PRC can produce most of its advanced weapons on its own while Taiwan has to pay hugely inflated prices to buy them from out side, and PRC's economy will benefit to a degree from the military spending in the area of increased employment and the development of dual use technology, Taiwan's weapon purchases does nothing other than make foreign weapon dealers richer.

Re: Type 071 LPD

more up to close pictures of a folded Z-8F model on 071, any guess on how many of these they can put in the hangar + helipad at the same time?

4 total. Two on deck and two in the hangar...Two helos would be the safe number to operate at once on a flight deck of that size.

Re: Type 071 LPD

some recently taken photo of 071, actually there are some with Z-8 and the Type 360 radar, but I didn't post them. Too many Z-8 on 071 photos these days. nice photos on different parts of 071.
