Lieutenant General
i would like to see line-up from front to back of a

Type 056
Type 054A
Type 052C
Type 071 LPD
Type 903A
and in the background the ex-Varyag Carrier! That would be a awesome shot and we would get a great view of the real comparison of sizes of these ships with each other

Colonel
That would make a very long photo if they are lined up in a line sideways. Maybe an aerial shot in formation would be better. That way you'll also get an comparison of their real estate.

Before and after mod comparison:

Yes the new ship is definitely different, not only stealthier (thanks to the new stack covers) but also IMHO prettier - the older models have that taper that goes all the way around the bow and it looks terrible - rather like one of those old people who forgot their dentures and now their lips are curling around their gums! - yuck!

Lets hope the rest of them incorporate these mods, as to the 1st set of 4(?) - experience with the PLAN tells me they might never modify them to correct this - look at the 054's - which they never improved.

Whoa, hold on there. Little about communist economic policies were scientific. The disaster of the Great Leap Forward was caused in part by wacky pseudo-science imported from the Soviet Union, notably the ideas of Trofim Lysenko. Some of those wacky ideas included the hypothesis that if you bury seeds very deep in the ground, they'll grow extra strong root systems. Instead they didn't grow at all! Another was that seeds of the same species don't compete with each other so it's OK to sew seeds densely, which is the exact opposite of what happens. Moreover, Mao was obsessed with increasing steel output so the CCP created thousands of backyard furnaces across the countryside which produced useless pig iron at great expense of time, wood, and iron ore.

Ahha, What Are You trying To Teach Us-Economics 101 or Political Science 101 or US Government 101 or Ship Design 101 or None of the Above or All the above?

Okay I have a question for all you out there.

You can clearly see cables (degaussing?) running down the sides of the ship from top to bottom and from her landing pad all the way to her bows.

They seem to be attached to some sort of projections (temporarily) welded to her sides.

As she is being launched, you would think they would remove these cables as they could foul against something underneath her and snag.

But as the series of pictures shows, they left them on and launched her cables and all.

She must be mounted on some sort of trestle that would allow her to come down the ways while keeping her in the correct position for a smooth launch.

How do you think they kept the cables from fouling?

According to western propaganda, China's communist economic policies will overtake the US capitalist policies in 2017 in terms of GDP. This is what communist scientific rational planning can do. As for the relevance of this fact to the thread, we will likely to see plenty more new iterations of 056 by 2017 because of increased funds available to the PLAN.

I think you two are talking about different things, it is true China under Mao was nothing scientific, but that China have nothing to do with today's China, the old China was an one man dictatorship. While the current China is a Aristocratic Oligarchy, and the decision making is much more base on logic and science, and of course, they are still not immune from making bad decisions, but the overall direction is positive.

You are not being very scientific and rational. The fact that the image of Moa appears on the Chinese currency and on Tianmen says the 'old' china is same as the 'new china'. If it wasn't for Moa's sacrifices, achievements, and rational thinking in building China from nothing, we wouldn't have ships like the 056. In contrast, given the same genetic base, what has the clowns in Taiwan built with their so called freedom, capitalism and American technology ?

China abandoned communist economic policies after Mao's death. The last thirty years of capitalist reform and opening up to foreign investment and trade have been the exactly opposite of what Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, and Mao envisioned. China's development in the last thirty years has been a great vindication of capitalist principles. Now I know some people will chime in by saying China still has large SOEs and the government plays a large role in the economy, all of which are true. But the principles of capitalism are largely responsible for China's economic success: private ownership of property and mostly free trade, if not internationally then at least domestically. And China's government has done an excellent job maintaining stability, developing the skills of the workforce, and building up hard infrastructure.
