So looking at a clear shot of the starboard side, I like to cross-reference to post #541 with another close up shot of the starboard side on a previous launch. Remember the discussion about what that panel was in #541? Well, the flushed door right where the FL-3000N lines up is the same. However, that metal grate right about where the secondary sensor mast lines up looks completely different from the one seen in post #541. The dark vertical part looks to be an opening. Did they change the design or is what we're seeing here the opening before they install that lid seen in #541? Still not sure what function this location performs. Also still leaning on the idea that it is some sort of air vent.

I meant that in China they sometimes skip the floor number 4 and go straight to floor 5, because living in "floor 4" is supposed to be unlucky, so if that's the case then would having 4 "aft windows" also be considered "unlucky", or does this kind of superstition only apply to buildings, not boats?

This sort things is more prevalent in Hong Kong and Taiwan rather than in China, one of the few good things of the first 30 years of the PRC is this sort of "feudal superstitions" are very looked down upon and not the sort of thing PLAN will partake.

That's because the mandarin sound for 4 is similar to death. But its influence is overrated. Most buildings in China have 4th floor, just like most building in the west have 13th floor.

You're right...in the West physically there is a 13th floor, but they just don't name it as the "13" floor on an elevator or building map.

We've seen many starboard side photos now and cross referencing them then you'll see that behind the panels are indeed the vents, so far Huizhou at HP has the panel covering and the ones launched at HD and WC don't. I don't think it's a matter of design change, they probably just haven't installed the panel yet.

This may seem like an odd comment, but the Type 056 has *4* "aft windows", which to westerners means nothing, but to the Chinese, doesn't the number 4 signify bad luck? I'm surprised they didn't design it to have 3 or 5 "aft windows" so it wouldn't have the unlucky number. You may laugh, but aren't there some buildings in China where there is no 4th floor because they believe in this sort of thing?

There is no religion or superstition in communism. It is a governing system based on science and rational planning. For official business, unluckiness is irrelevant. Anyone brining in superstition for official business is likely to get sent to do some hard labour re-education.

Thanks, can't wait to see pics of the 2nd launch at HP, just to see if it already has that panel or not. If so, I would tend to believe HP launches her vessels more complete than the other shipyards.
