No. We won't know how much the weight of additional VLS there would affect the center of gravity of the ship, which I would suspect would make it more bow heavy.

Instead, look back at the section where the aft VLS is. That section might be modular to allow for future 055s to be different as amended in the contract. In a future contract, you can stipulate to change the section there for one with 64 VLS so you can a full 128. Or have a section with a newly designed, even larger VLS for ASBMs. Or have said section to have a different mix of the U-VLS and the even larger VLS.

That stuff happens in video games like Cold Waters and DCS where the AI drives the fleets into ultimaie CQC situations. Saw a YT video where the Kuznetsov sank a Nimitz in CQC ripping the other ship with a rain of 30mm.

Unless you had no choice the smart option is to retreat to safety and reload your missiles. Guns are pretty much niche these days, a low cost option for shore bombardment when enemy anti-ship capabilities have been destroyed and taking on lower-tier enemies like speedboats.

Sometimes we see pictures of a single enemy escort in amongst a CSG, I often thought that its gun could do untold damage in a sneak attack in that situation.

The 055’s gun has a rapid rate of fire and can traverse with frightening speed.

How many hits could a carriers island or a destroyers mast take before it’s mission killed?

How would a CSG respond to an attack like that? What is going to stop that gun firing before your CSG is wrecked?

That would not happen in an active war though lol.

I think it has been happening with US and it's allies who were doing exercises around China and either invited China to come see (probably only partly and nothing of importance) or China just tailed them (freedom of navigation lol).

I would get a bit more innovative, delete the 130 mm, and put some more VLS in there.

Just distribute the VLS across the fore, mid and aft sections of the ship respectively.

The CGI ship below has 176 VLS cells. (and two guns)

I really love this design - A newer and larger Ticonderoga-class with more VLS for the PLAN.
