i saw the photos of the wuhan mockup again, and i think that i have found a way of measuring the width.

The grating of the "bow" has 4 pieces of grating and one with 2/3 of the size. Type 052c/d´s stern (18 meters) has 4 pieces of grating. Using that measure, it gives 21 meters of width to the mockup. Probably a bit more, because it has 4 breaks betwen each piece compared to 3 breaks for the type 052c/d.

Using the same metodology of measuring by the grating, and assuming that there will be 20 meters of flight deck after the hangar (the same as the type 052D), i think that it gives 183-184 meters of length.

183-184 meters by 21+ meters gives it aproxm the same size as a slava class cruiser, which is also in the same weight class AFAIK (12000t)

Slava is HUGE and might I add quite an impressive and intimating sight. I have seen her in person!

According to rumors, 055 may be built around the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015. The features include
1. 112 VLS tubes
2. displacement around 12,800 tons
3. length-width ratio > 8
First batch comprises of 8 ships.

wow ... during a visit (to Norfolk I mean, happened around 1990) or ... you were on the wrong side of the SS-N-12 Sandbox launchers, kwaigonegin??

Saw her in the open ocean.. During Westpac I believe. No you definitely don't want to be on the receiving end of the sandbox missile!! You will be guaranteed a very bad day!.

If you were deployed at the time to the Westpac, you probably did see one there as the Russians (and the Soviets before) have a Slava assigned to the Pacific Fleet.

They and the Kirovs (and for that matter the Sovs too, though their "broadside" is smaller and shorter ranged) were built with one task in mind for those large batteries of big, fast missiles.

To find any major US surface combatant who could possible threaten their sub bastions, or other interests, and unlead on them with enough of those big bad boys to overwhelm their defenses and put them down.

The AEGIS system was developed specifically to counter saturation missile attacks that the Soviet Union was planning to deliver in the case of hostilities.

Now, the PLAN is developing missiles with similar ranges...and some with lower, sub-mach speed, and others with higher speed. Perhaps not as big a warhead, but dangerous nonetheless. Their Type 52 and 52B DDGs with their 16 ASM loadouts are a good case in point. Sixteen anti-shipping missiles is a heavy loadout, and would also result in a very bad day.

If the Type 55 comes out with 96, or 128 VLS cells (or anything in between) and can carry 16-20 lethal ASMs, then that too will be a very powerful combatant...no matter how you slice it.

I'm curious as to just what kind of missile YJ-12 is. Supposedly it is similar to klub, or even a chinese copy of klub.

But at present information is sketchy and we don't even have a blurry photo of it.

I thought the YJ-18 was the Klub analogue/clone?

The YJ-12, from what we've seen, has four intakes for its ramjet engine.
