I think that nice work was a part of a series of futuristic warships. All of them were quite good. I believe they were posted in the fan art thread some time ago.

I doubt very much these ships would have been given the ability to target their missiles in "AAW or ASuW" mode.
You may doubt it all you want...does not change a thing.

The point of an arsenal ship would be completely missed by putting advanced sensors on such a ship.
The point of an arsenal ship was to provide a LOT of VLS cells for use against enemy targets. Such vessels would be very valuable and become targets themselves and would need to defend themselves against enemy attempts to interdict them. Both anti-air and anti-surface attempts.

And there is no such thing as an 'ASuW radar' unless you are talking about the OTH Mineral ME-type surface radars which the USN didn't have and doesn't use now.
Any search and targeting radar that allows you to identify and target a surface contact is indeed a surface radar that can be used against surface contacts (which is what ASuW means). IMHO, you are drifting into an argument over semantics.

For AAW you would have to install nothing other than the SPY-1 and the Aegis combat data system...
No, you would not "have" to do any such thing. Having these vessels capable of defending themselves was viewed as critical. 1st, if left without it, even relatively light attacks could be mounted against them almost anywhere requiring that a DDG be with them at all times, even out of the the heavy threat environments.

2nd, any and all efforts they can add to their own defense is helpful...and the cooperative engagement capabilities become very critical even when they are escorted by the larger vessels.

All of these scenarios were carefully thought about in the studies and allowed for.

As it was...they were never built in any case, so it is all moot.

Now, as it is, the entire discussion of arsenal ships and how they defend themselves is completely off-topic in the Type 055 thread.

It has been over discussed here already and beat to death at this point. If you want to continue to discuss it, create a separate thread about arsenal ships in the World Military Forum and continue it there. But on this thread...

Get back on topic.

Oh that's real nice mod action there. I have started a new topic in the World Military subforum.
No problem...you are free to think what you will.

The discussion can continue there with no issue or problem.

Thanks for moving the off topic discussion there.

I will find that thread and move the entire set of posts there so the full context of the discussion can be there where it belongs.

i saw the photos of the wuhan mockup again, and i think that i have found a way of measuring the width.

The grating of the "bow" has 4 pieces of grating and one with 2/3 of the size. Type 052c/d´s stern (18 meters) has 4 pieces of grating. Using that measure, it gives 21 meters of width to the mockup. Probably a bit more, because it has 4 breaks betwen each piece compared to 3 breaks for the type 052c/d.

Still seems a little bit wishy-washy to me.

I think the most accurate way will be I wait until we have new GE photos of the site.

Also, note what we have may not be the whole beam of the ship, as the mock up's deck platform may not be indicative of its real deck height. And seeing as deck height is typically the widest point on a ship, that has repercussions for estimates of beam. This all depends on the ship's real deck height of course.

I dont see what is "wishy-washy" about it. We have something that can be measured. GE pictures can also get blurry you know. And we have no ideia when they will get new photos from that site. Could take years for that to happen.

As for the deck height, i dont understand that (english is not my first language). Are you refering to the flight deck? i dont think that the ship will get any wider once it gets to the flight deck.

Regarding deck height, I'm saying that the platform deck of the mock up may not be the actual ship's deck height.

Go back to post 848 and 849 to see what I mean.

GE photos are arguably the best way I measure dimensions here, because using photos taken from the ground brings in perspective effects. GE removes that. Yes photos may be potentially blurry, but perspective is usually not a problem and we can get a max and min estimate that way.

As for wishy washiness, well the immediate most obvious one, is the assumption that the grates on the mock up and 052D's helipad are equal in width.

It's an interesting way to try and ascertain 055s beam, but I think the assumption on equal grate dimension is one that we can't assume at this stage.
