Absolutely. I don't see PLAN could challenge USN in at least 25 years to come, but in 10 years from now (e.g 2025) USN may have to think twice to interfere China' interests in West Pacific, as it would be way too expensive and risky (uncertainty) to wage a limited war with PLAN, but no doubt USN would win comfortably

USA and China are trying to archive two different strategical goals with their navies. And looking how the US Navy got busted in several green water wargames against other NATO navies. I don't think it's something that would take decades for China.

Personally I'm more interested in seeing how defense news outlets react.

Many USN watching sites have bemoaned the USNs decline in combat fleet numbers, an at the same time I feel they have also underestimated both the quantity and quality of the ships the PLAN have produced or are in the order of producing, namely 054A and 052D. If it turns out that the PLAN are planning to build large numbers of 055s and if it is in the class of capability we think it is, then it may prompt an interesting discussion about the foreseeable surface combatant balance the same way J-20 did for air power.

True, but the US Navy still possessed the top notch submarine program in the world. One the PLAN can match withing 10-20 years depending on immediate need and of course money.

PLAN doesn't have to match the entire USN in parity only the USPACFLT. winning in war is subjective. There are no real winners in wars.. Only pain and sufferings. The determinant factor is which side is able to stomach more casualties. I also doubt there will be such thing as a limited war between the US and China so it's really pointless to even discuss such things on here because it will become unproductive very quickly.

A war-game and real war is two different things

and PLAN and USN will not engage in green water, most likely in blue water

where would be? ... within 200 miles Chinese coast? ... I doubt it! ..... within 200 miles US coast? ... no chance at all

The USN has also been vested in deeper water exercises as well.

The key point is that it probably won't take as long as you claimed for the PLAN and PLA at large to reach a level where it can contest and win against the US pacific forces considering only a portion of the USN and a USAF will be deployed in the pacific at any one time.

What about within 200 miles of the Philippines, or Vietnam? 200 miles off the Chinese coast isn't that doubtful either. Taiwan and Korean are on China's doorstep.
