Oh shit. I just realized I'll be flying over Shanghai in two weeks too. Maybe I should bring my zoom lens...
Dude, maybe? You totally need to bring your zoom lens!

So I just checked the flight path history for my flight. It looks like I have a decent chance of passing by Changxing Island. Two problems though. One is whether I'll be sitting on the right side of the plane is a crapshoot. The other, which is far more prohibitive, is that I probably won't have any daylight left to grab a picture by the time I arrive.Dude, maybe? You totally need to bring your zoom lens!

I picked a window seat, but some flight paths orient the shipyard toward the left side and others have it facing the right side, hence the crapshoot. When I used "right" I didn't mean the directional definition of the word.Y crapshoot? Don't even u have have assigned seating? Or have u already picked the 'wrong' seat?
Oh! That's very easy to figure out then.I picked a window seat, but some flight paths orient the shipyard toward the left side and others have it facing the right side, hence the crapshoot. When I used "right" I didn't mean the directional definition of the word.
Haha, what I've been trying to say is that that's exactly what I did! I checked several days worth of route logs and they show a lot of variation in their directional orientation towards the site of interest, which is why the question of whether I will be sitting on the side of the plane that will let me see the shipyard was a crapshoot. That said, we're fussing over nothing really, because the bigger problem is that I won't be able to make the sun come back up when I arrive at Pudong airport.Oh! That's very easy to figure out then.
You can go to a site like flight aware and it tells you the path of the specific flight.
Actually that sharp left turn from northwest to southeast will point left-sided windows directly over the shipyard.I would advise sitting on the left of the aircraft so you can take pictures while flying north. On the southbound approach, it looks as though the aircraft flies very close to directly on top of the shipyard so you wouldn't be able to get the angle needed to take a good picture.
