OK, I know the forum already had a discussion about whether the main gun blocks the CIWS on the 052D, without a clear verifiable conclusion, but I think it's fair to raise the question whether the same issue exists with the 055 design based on this photo of the mockup.

most AShM attack from the side, so not been able to shoot directly over the bow is not critical. but recently there is a widely circulated video of a Russian exercise which shows a Moskit attack coming from directly ahead of the target ship and penetrating almost the entire length of the ship. so if you can track the incoming missiles on your radar, presumably you want to turn your bow to place the missile at either the 11 or 1 o'clock position, allowing you bring the maximum number of your guns on target while still presenting the smallest target to the missile.

I wonder why they painted it in two tones...

Merged the two photos together through the magic of microsoft paint, and added my own lines about the hull shape.

For a while previously I thought the front deck couldn't possibly be representative of the actual hull base, but then I realized how the PLAN's bows are elevated. So, going from precedent on other ships, assuming the main gun on the mock up is on an inclined forward bow, we can extrapolate the possible height of the hull relative to the structures atop. In fact this is the only way which makes sense, given if the mock up's deck level is representative of hull height then the helicopter hangars will be too low, barely high enough to fit a Z-20.

Back in July, when I took the mock-up and used Paint Shop pro, this is what I came up with:

Amazing what we can do these days.

I am excited to see one of these babies start actually building.

It would be good to see a comparison...............say side on of an 055 against a 052D, to get a scale between the two vessel types. Would anyone here used to using a paint-shop type program be able to do this?
