It seems strange to me why they kept these right angles in the design instead of using the approach that the 054A has at this location. Right angles are generally a big no-no in stealth design since they are major radar reflectors, so whatever radar hits that location is going to get a big fat radar return for the price of on the house.

If you look at the superstructure, you can see that it is tilted at an angle. It looks pretty far from the shape needed for excessive optical scattering, and the edges are sloped away gently enough to probably avoid edge scattering.

Interesting...... Why are Chinese commissioning way longer(about twice as long) than say Japan?
Type 54B takes 26 months from keel block laying to comission. While Asahi class destroyer aka DD25 takes 27 months from keel blocks laying to comission. Displacement 5,100 tons standard, 6,800 tons fully loaded.

Type 054B - 19 months for outfitting + sea trial
Asahi class aka DD25 - 18 months for outfitting + sea trial

Since Asahi class is a destroyer, a more appropriate comparison would be Mogami class frigate which took 30 months from lay down to comissioning for lead ship.
