I must admit I am somewhat surprised by the news of further 054A units myself, I do however agree that it is likely they will move towards a larger gas turbine design, possibly with an AESA radar derived from the 052C technology.

Hey, just to get back to your question about msa ship. I posted on my blog

on this, but the basic gist is HP is building a bunch of cutters for one of the two major Maritime agencies in China. It's part of their general MSA build up in south china sea.

Excellent blog post tphuang, the MSA build up is a fascinating and unreported element of China's oceanic presence.

they finally sent some people down there to actually get the photos for 054A. So here they are, much closer view. The sensor fitting is going really well from what I can see in these photos.

Wow, these people have connections. :D

Btw, I've come to the conclusion that the bridge of the new 054 is not pointed as I've suspected earlier. It's just a photographic effect that make it seem like so.

Sorry, TP, I tried to download the photos. If you can post them, please help me out!

Right click + save doesn't work for you? I've already seen the photos and didn't post them because it takes time to upload + donwload.

It would be good if everyone can do that. I will probably post it when I get home later.

in the first photo issit just me or do you guys also see a large hull structure in the left covered dry dock beside the one the new 054 came out from. it seems to have a very flat upper hull. could it be part of the long rumoured CV? just a thought

I would argue that the dock and therefore the hulltop is way to narrow to be a usefull CV. Then again I'm not that much into shipconstruction, so I have no clue what else that could be.

Had nothing else to do btw, here's the first three pics from that site.
