First vessel of all four 054/APs for Pakistan Navy was painted pennant number 261 recently, indicating she's ready for delivery. Congrats!

It happened two or three years ago,. And now all four vessels are launched and this very first one enters commission.

This is China, not India.

Today in Hudong Shipyards, Shanghai, the first one of the four Type 054APs is formally transfered to Pakistan Navy.

The Pakistan national anthem was played and Pakistan Navy flag rose on the mast during the ceremony. This first vessel was named PNS TUGHRIL (pennant no. 261).

Yeah it's 8 CM-401 ASCMs. To be honest, the Type 54A is not very strong in the offensive anti-ship department, with only 8 missiles compared to the 16+ say on the modern Russian frigates. The Type 54A missiles are only subsonic (although it is high subsonic), compared to the supersonic (and experimental hypersonic) ASCMs on Russian frigates. The main use of the PLAN frigate would be medium range air defence.

PLAN doesn't need the 054A to fulfill anti-ship missions.

Its multi role. Both its VLS and slant canisters can be used to carry two distinct ASROCs. But if you ever want to fit YJ-12s on the Type 054A, they could likely do it. I thought the 054A/P used CM302 (export YJ-12) instead of CM401.

Type 054A/P is equiped with CM302 (YJ-12A export variant), at the moment only DDG167, DDG136 and DDG137 are confirmed fitted with this missile type after their MLU.

(I am pondering is YJ-12A's diameter able to fit into the UVLS of type 052D and type 055?).

It is possible we might see YJ-12A on 31st type 054A(+++?) onward, so keep your eyes on it.
