What's up with the reddish deck coloring ? It reminds me of those old Soviet warships. Or is it that they haven't finish the painting or laying the protective layer yet ? I don't like that color.

The final non-slip coating is black in color, so that more looks like primer coat, once the builder's trial finish then the final coat will be applied.

Watchers suggested the 9th 054A of Hudong, or the 17th of the total showed up:

They also Id-ed sections of the 10th 054A of hudong, or the 18th of the total:

Certainly looks like it to me. Now we will have to see as she comes along whether there are any improvements, or if she is simply a continuation of this Type 054A build.

On another note, but of interest to the Type 054A, over on the PLAN Carrier thread we had a discussion about helos for the Carrier and other PLAN vessels (Frigates and Destroyers). The question was raised whether a PLAN Type 054A could carry a SH-60 helo.

I was asked if I would use my 1/350 scale models to check it out (I also created a seperate thread for it here: Type054A & SH-60 Helos)..

It just so happens in my own HP Shipyard annex in Idaho, I am building two Type 054A FFGs in 1/350 scale now as escorts to my PLAN CV-16 Liaoning and to accompany the DDG-171, Haikou I have already built. So I took a 1/350 scale SH-60 and played with it:

Here's the results. 1st, will it fit on the flight deck with its rotors operating:

Next, would the SH-60 fit into the hanger? As you can see, with the rear aielron in the horizontal pistion, it is a no go. But once folded, watch what happens.

Finally, would it fit all the way into the hangar, or be too long. Here's the answer to that...and it is a yes too.

So, yes, physically a SH-60 will fit onto and into a Type 054A Frigate. If the hangar on the Type 052C is large enough, it would fit there too. Clearly, it could fit and operate off the carrier.

Holy smoke HP and HD just did the number on this FFG

Ok so my tally is as follows

ESF
Has 529, 530, 548 and 549 as well as the older Type 054 525 and 526

That's 4 x Type 054A and 2 x Type 054

SSF
Has 568-571 and will have soon 572-575 (574 and 575 still to join)

That's 8 x Type 054A

NSF
Has 538, 546, 547 and 550

That's 4 x Type 054A

Now if we have a 17th and 18th units they might be going to ESF to compete full 2 x Flotillas of FFG in the fleet

If they stop at 18 great that's 5 Flotillas ( 4 units each) of modern FFG

Question is will they add another Flotilla to NSF which means they will build 22 x Type 054A or a another variant Type 054B

Aren't the UK still using the Type 023 frigates? So what shipyard builds them? Oh by the way, welcome to the forum.
