I just purchased two of the new Trumpeter 1/350 scale Type 054A frigates.

Specifically I will build the 530 and the 570 for my PLAN CGS. Here's a link to Trumpter's site announcing them. They will not be available here in the states until August, but I ordered two from a model site in China where they are already available, at

. In fact, they just shipped to me yesterday and should be here in a couple of weeks.

These will add nicely to my Type 52C DDG-171, Haikou, which I have already built:

That smaller bow between the 054s and the white vessel should be the 056 from the other threads. Interesting from this angle as the bow heights look to be about equal between the two models though from previous construction shots, that wasn't the case.
The Type 056 is simply closer and therefore appears as high...because the Type 054A are set further back and bigger.

It id s rescue tug for China Rescue. As far as I can see the number is Dong Hai Jiu 101.

Huangpu has already built a lot of these: Bei/Dong/Nan Hai Jiu 111-113, 115-116. That should be a total of 15.

You guys think 054A will be mass produced with barely any changes like the 053 and serve for decades? Or do you guys think it would be more similar to the 054 series, produced with major improvements on every few ships?

Type 054A has already been in serial production for the last five years.

I expect they will all be pretty much the same over this time, but they appear, at least IMHO, to have been built, sort of like the US Spruance Class, to receive new innovations and upgrades as they come along so if something really good comes along that they really want them all to have, they will rotate them back in during their normal miantenance yard time and add it.

Right now, there are no shortages of them:

...with 15 having already been built and another three to come out soon. The only question now is really how many they intend to build before they switch to an upgraded or newer design. Some thought they would stop at 16, now it appears 18.

It is a modern and good, very capable multi-role design for an FFG, so, if they are indeed flexible enough to take on new techs as they come out, then continuing will not really set them back unless there is somethig very major that the current hull and propulsion system cannot handle.

053 class went through several upgrades. 054 class has only gone through one upgrade so far.
