052C/052D Class Destroyers

Isn't a destroyer size ship like the 052D for a coast guard a waste of money and construction time? As a navy ship it can carry huge firepower. But a coastguard ship don't even carry missiles. Just a few guns and water canon will be such a waste of such a expensive warship.
You should check up CCG 3901 and CCG 5901. One of them came in handy during the last encounter with destroyer size US Coast Guard ships in SSC a few years ago. CCG3901 and 5901 are way way larger than type 052D in size.

Hulls are cheap. It's all the systems that make a DDG expensive. A coast guard cutter even the size of an 052 shouldn't break the bank, as counterintuitive as it sounds at first.

Why don't they just transfer all the type 056 to the coast guard?

Will be interesting to learn if CG 052D powertrain will remain the same. If yes, that will be a USCG Legend class on steroids. Most of the CG vessels are Diesel only.

Are there currently 25 type 052D's?

There are currently 25 052D/DGs in active service with the PLAN, with at least 10 more under various stages of construction or sea trials.

Where would i find an accurate number if not?

There is no singular, ultimate source to depend upon when it comes to PLA-watching, as it is always the case to first gather from wide variety of sources, followed by making analysis and inference on our own before deciding/concluding on which findings are true/more accurate or not.

But if you only just want a quick brief look at numbers, Chinese Wikipedia on modern PLAN warships are somewhat more accurate and up-to-date. However, they can and do get wrong on some information, hence caution is advised.
