I moved the specific discussion about the Russian Slava Class cruiser to the Russian Military News thread.

If you are looking for your post retgarding the Slava and its missiles, armaments, etc, look there.

Back on topic.

Type 052C looks like 1/2 size of the Slava Class check this shot out might just be the angle but what a size of the Slava!

Yeah, that is definitely the angle. If you take a shot from the front looking back the slava will actually look smaller than the 052c lol

This picture probably best illustrates the relative size

Well, the numbers say it all. The Type 052D is much smaller...but certainly not half the size.

Type 052D - 512 feet length, 56 foot beam, 7,400 tons
Slava Class- 612 feet length, 68 foot beam, 12,500 tons

Yeah, i was thinking more in terms of length and beam rather than displacement or internal volume, because the original picture refernced skewed the visibile dimensiomns of the two ships.

Ships with only modestly larger overall beam or length than a slightly smaller ship can displace far more.

Great warships!

But the quality of water of the Huangpu River and the air quality is really really really bad...

Looking at it alone makes me wonder how the hell does the 23 million+ people living in Shanghai can survive it...

Sigh.

Young Man, the river (Huangpu River) is way better than 30 years ago. It was dirty, black, stink and lifeless.

People's daily Online said:
The guided missile destroyer “Changchun” of the 17th escort taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLAN) completed a successful escort mission with the “Nawa 3”, a ship belonging to the World Food Program (WFP), which reached the sea area near Somalia’s Bossaso Port on May 24 2014, carrying humanitarian relief materials.

This is the eighth occasion on which a Chinese naval escort taskforce has escorted a ship carrying humanitarian aid on behalf of the WFP. Throughout the journey the “Changchun” provided an escort to the Nawa 3, deploying its weapons to ensure the safety of the escorted ship, and guaranteeing its communications.

The Chinese Navy attended a related international conference held by the WFP in 2010, and promised to dispatch its warships to join escort missions. The participation of the Chinese Navy in these escort missions demonstrates its commitment to meeting its international obligations.
