That is a massively favorable price for the PLAN considering Flight III Arleigh Burkes are going to be right around $2.3 billion a pop. Would you rather buy 1 ABIII or 4 052D's?

Price of 052D excludes R&D cost while price of Burke includes R&D

I tend to believe the price of 052D should be around $1B

This is all ridiculous because we don't even know whether the supposed cost quoted for 052D is credible or not.

Do we have the original statement made by whoever that said it, and whether it included the various development costs.?

And antiterror, I don't see why the price of 052D wouldn't include R and D unless explicitly stated. US shipbuilding tends towards high cost for a variety of complex reasons. For instance, Wikipedia lists a Korean built king sejong class DDG as half the price of a flight iia burke (keep in mind that a sejong is larger and more heavily armed and overall more capable than an individual flight iia burke).
Therefore it isn't unreasonable at all to think that the smaller 052D, built in chinese shipyards with lower labour costs than both America and South Korea could produce a much cheaper ship than a burke.

The hull cost for an Arleigh Burke II+ goes in the neighborhood of $600-700 million right now. The USN provides most of the electronics.

Of course all just a guess .. that's why make it interesting discussion.

R&D cost is not part of Chinese defence budget unlike in the US

surely 052D should be cheaper than Burke .... I mentioned (my guess) $1B vs $2.3B ..... is $1B much cheaper than $2.3B? ... I believe so

That is a claim based off various western agencies that believe chinas defence budget is understated. However they don't exactly provide detailed evidence to back up their claim and are really just guessing like us.

Basically what I am saying, is that I do not believe R and D costs aren't part of the purchase price mentioned.

Your $1 B number was based on what exactly? Just a random guess because $0.5 B seemed too low?

Regarding the cost of a 052D Destroyer........for reference,
an article on the subject over at qianzhan.com, does estimate the cost to be around 3.5 billion yuan!

Make of it what you will!
