Re: DDG 052C Thread

Does anybody have information about the Type 052D?

It's been rumored that it will start construction after the 6th Type 052C is launched, in 2012.

There is also an enlarged and enhanced Type 051C in the works, called the Type 051D.

Does anybody have information?

re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

Any news on the Type 052D or Type 051D destroyers?

Construction starts in 2012 and the first ships may be launched by 2013.

re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

where are you pulling off these random dates from?

Various reports and articles, and some dates that are said in common by military analysts.

And from some time intervals as well.

It is believed that the first Type 052D will enter construction after 6 Type 052Cs are built. Currently, the 4th Type 052C will be launched. Given that the time interval between launches is 6 months, we can expect the 5th Type 052C to be launched in November 2011 and the 6th Type 052C to be launched in May 2012. This would put the Type 052D's launch date in November 2012.

Other defense analysts also share the same opinion.

re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

Let's wait until 052D actually takes shape before judging it. It's not like we have to wait that long. JN shipyard is going to be cranking out DDGs pretty quickly in the coming years.

btw, here is a photo of what hsh is saying that 113 modifications are. I'm assuming that 112 modifications will be similar. In a few months, we will find out if this is for real.

Very interesting diagram of LUHU 113. Some blurred tv pictures of the ship confirm some of the modifications, such as removal of the forward 37 mm guns and installation of a Type 364 radar on the mainmast.

It is a small mystery that no one appears to have seen LUHU 113 under conversion. If it has spent anything like so long time in the shipyard as 112, it ought to have been difficult to miss.

It appears to be a near certainty that 112 will be exactly like 113, perhaps even the same funnel (which would indicate installation of Ukrainian gas turbines vice GE). It cannot be long before LUHAI 167, too, upgrades to 730 as CIWS.

Incidentally, the same tv pictures also show LUDA 108, which is still an old standard LUDA with old 37 mm guns and HY-1 SSM launchers. The 2008 photo purporting to show the destroyer as a Type 051G was accordingly a hoax.

IMHO, they should also replace that forward missile battery with their FL-3000N.

The PLAN does not appear to see it that way, since they have opted to retain the HHQ-7/Crotale Naval and the reloading arrangement that seems to go with it.

Understood. And they clearly at this time are not replacing it. I just believe that the FL-3000N would be a much more capable AAW missile, and that since it is relatively self-contained, could easily fit in that space...it is simply my opinion in any case.

re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

They could certainly easily fit the HHQ-10 into the space occupied by the HHQ-7, but would that be an improvement? The HHQ-10, or FL-3000N, is a CIWS, and has to date not been fitted into any destroyers, though I am sure it will be in due course. The only combattant to have it so far is the ex-VARYAG (CHONGQING?).

Crotale Naval is probably not so bad. I would be surprised if the PLAN did not have the improved VT-1 missile (Mach 3.5) which has been in production since about 1992 and which, like the original missile has a range of 13 km. If the reloading system is the standard one, it should hold 18 spare missiles.
