Re: »Ø¸´: Type 052 (Luhu Class)

Without the Type 051, you have 13 HHQ-7 equipped ships (LUHU, LUHAI, JIANGWEI II).

You should bear in mention that HQ-7 is not only found in the Navy. A number of division-level air defence battalions of the Ground Forces also have it, on that horrible-looking launch vehicle developed for the Armée de l’Air (I find it hard to believe that anything that ugly could have been designed in France, of all countries!). So it is not only a question of getting rid of an obsolescent system (though as far as I remember updated with a faster missile in French and no doubt Chinese service) from one of the Armed Forces.

I do not like to speculate either, but yes, a 730-HHQ-10 combination looks like a distinct possibility. And Type 382, too, to replace 363S.

What's wrong with HQ-7 ?, it is more than enough to deal with most Asian countries.

I am confused with HHQ-10 ? , is it TOR-M2 equivalent or Chinese RAM (FL-3000N), which one you are talking about ?

Re: »Ø¸´: Type 052 (Luhu Class)

Ships new built with HQ-7 I have,

10 x Jiangwei II

2 x Luhu class

1 x Luhai class

2 x Jiangkai-I Class

For a total of 15.

Do you have the Hull numbers for the 051's you think have been fitted with HQ-7? The only ones I have notes of are 109, 110, 165, 166.

I dont think HQ-7 as a system is going anywhere though I agree that an upgraded missile is probable. The biggest changes to the ships will probably be in radar and CMS.

Very embarrassing, you really got me there. I forgot the JIANGKAI I and had two LUDA too many. The fifth modernised LUDA is 108 (according to 2008 photography). Happily, this still makes a total of 20...

HHQ-10 is supposed to be the (naval) designation of the export type FL-3000N. The Chinese are not going to acquire more Tor-M (or in the naval version, which they is apparently not for export at all, Kinzhal) than the few battalions (three, I think) they got for the Ground Forces in the late 90’s.

Re: DDG 052C Thread

a bunch of 052C pictures from JN shipyard. It looks like the 5th and 6th ship are really making progress.

The third ship is still getting fitted out. I'm hoping it will be ready to do sea trials soon. Compared to earlier this year, looks like a good number of the foremast sensors are installed now (including SR-64). I think they still have to install those ECM/EW bulbs.

It's hard to see much of the 4th unit to gauge it's progress. They say it should be launched in a couple of months. We will see.

The 5th one actually looks pretty far along. I wonder if they will move it to the dry dock before the 4th gets launched or after.

I think these are the modules of the 6th unit.

re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

No, the base for the Type 518 radar on top of the hangar was removed and the new pole mast (still red-leaded), similar to the one for 517 on LUHAI 167, was installed instead.

It would appear that all Chinese-built destroyers should now have 517, since they are even on the new 052C, while they are disappearing from frigates – none on 054/054A, removed from 053H1G, but still on 053H2G/053H3.

The base for HHQ-7, or really Crotale Naval, is still in place, while those, as you note, for the 37 mm guns have been removed along with the associated 347G fire control radars. The openings in the stern for launching the DUBV43 VDS have been plated in.

All in all this looks to be a serious mid-life update, though not conducted with any great urgency, since the ship has been in since mid-2009.

The drydock is apparently only used for repairs and is located at 31 15 30 N 121 32 58 E in what I believe was formerly Zhonghua (but tphuang may correct me on this).

Type 051C was of course built in Dalian, not in Shanghai.

The first PLAN ship to get HHQ-7 was, I think, 051G 109 in 1990. Since then, six more 051s have been equipped with this SAM, so the total number of HHQ-7 units is 20. This SAM is not about to go away from the PLAN any time soon (or from the Marine Nationale, for that matter).
you must just have better eye sight than I do. I look at those 2 pictures and can't even see the front of the ship let alone whether or not HHQ-7's base is still in place.

This is the latest picture I have of 112 that showed the bow of the ship and I can't say conclusively even looking at this picture that HHQ-7's base is still in place.

Just looking at this ship, it looks like they could take apart any part of the ship. I wouldn't make any conclusive statement about what they may put on it.

re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

Of course I could not pick up all those details from the two photos of 112 in drydock, but I have seen many other pictures of the ship since the refit started.

Re: DDG 052C Thread

that is interesting, i think by 2015 China will deploy totaly advanced surface ships in good numbers, just concentrating on Type 052C and Type054A frigates by 2015 we should see

10 Type 052C/D Destroyers
18 Type 054/A/B
3-4 Type071 LPD
possibly a Helicopter Carrier beyond 2015

this is a very serious force obviously not including all the other olders destroyers and frigates

Re: DDG 052C Thread

With eventually 6 052C DDG, that's about enough dedicated air defense ships to deck out the surface components of a small battle group centered around a carrier or a LPD

What'd be interesting from hereon are:
1. Which fleet will get those 4 new ships?
2. How'd such battle group composed? Right now 052C DDG and 071 LPD all goes to the South Sea Fleet so the organization is simple.

I believe 052C contract would end after the current batch, top at 6. they have somethingelse in works.
054A would total about 18. after that another iteration of 054 similar to FREMMs.
current contract for 071 would be 3 I believe.
next would be the flat top LHDs.

plus 1+2 carriers.
