Re: DDG 052C Thread

Actually, they were from quite reputable posters.

if you can find a ship carrying 9M96 in rif vls, then that would be some solid support for your case.

I went back and read your previous statement again:
btw, I did read for posters following the Russian navy that naval version of 9M96 are not launched from the same launchers as S-300, but rather have their own launchers that have one missile per launch cell.
There is nothing in this statement that tells me 9M96 missiles could NOT be launched from S-300 launchers. Whether 9M96 and S-300 missiles would or would not be mixed in a single launcher depends on operational requirements. Older Russian destroyers already keep their long-range and medium-range air defense missile in separate launchers, developed and fielded long before the S-400/9M96 series came out. Of the newer ships, the Neustrashimy class frigates use the Kinzhal (Tor) missle, the Admiral Gorshkov and the Admiral Grigorovich/Talwar class frigates use the Uragan (Buk) missile, and I don't know of any new destroyer classes being fielded by the Russian Navy any time soon. As far as I can tell, I don't see any Russian ships would have an operational requirement which would benefit from mixing the 9M96 and the S-300 as opposed to their current arrangements. So which ships are your Russian friends talking about?

for someone with out alot of time to reviwe the past 10-15 pages what would a good summary of what the new Type 052C be?

Also is it more appropriate to call it a Type 052D or Type 052C+

Very easy; 052C, meaning, it is a repeat of the original 052C class.

Apparently, this is upsetting for some.

Apparently not.

Probably too early to say on that one. We will need a good top view to see if there has been any changes on the number of missiles.

At present, all we can say with any degree of certainty is that the rear VLS are still the circular HQ9s from the first pair of 052Cs.

They could have repurposed those launchers to shoot other things.

Certainly possible, but I feel the PLAN would much prefer a square cell universal VLS like the MK41. As such it would not make sense to make the circular HQ9 launchers multi-role as well if they ultimately intend to replace them.

Re: DDG 052C Thread

The chance of the Type 052C having a forward hot launch VLS is close to zero IMO. The Type 052C looks to me like it will remain as it is now, with 48 cold launched HQ-9's. We will have to wait for the "052D" class to see if a PLAN destroyer class will mount hot launch cells.
