They are taken from different angles, and if I'm not mistaken the dark structure to the left in the last picture is the right extreme of the 3rd ship shown in photo 3.

Re: DDG 052C Thread

I think the 4th picture looks like an 052C, the bow of the ship on the side has the sort of "crescent" shape distinctive to the class.

Impressive, if there are indeed those 4 extra 052Cs (well, two extra ships, seeing as one has obviously come out, while the other is just a few months behind) to make up a grand total of 6 it would be a major boost if not a near revolution for PLAN air defence. The increased quantity would allow these assets to be transferred to make up part of a CVBG along with 054As and varying SSNs.

4 extra 052Cs ! ... at the same time .. it is really impressive plus a few 054A, and 071, subs, etc, etc ..... I wonder whether they can control the quality of all of them (many) to the highest standard ?

Well the chinese shipbuilding industry is 2nd in the world or something (maybe 1st this year supposedly) -- so quality control shouldn't be a big deal. It's not like all the construction is being handled by a lone shipyard either.

Unless they decide to take cheap short cuts or something I imagine there shouldn't be any quality problems as long as all the guidelines, steps and such are followed.

Besides I think the time of questioning the quality of chinese made weapons is long past now, sounds almsot cold-war ish to me :p

Is this the beginnig of a new DDG production waves? How long will PLAN keep those aged 051 DDG's?

Just for comparison, US Navy comissioned 29 new Burke class destroyers in the last 10 years. That being said, I belive it's better for PLAN to go slow, not to mention it'd be dangerous for the whole economy to try to match usn comissioning rates at this moment.

That may be so, but that is heritage and certainly not the way the USN is going to build destroyers in the future. When construction of BURKE class destroyers Flight IIB (or whatever they will eventually be called) was resumed after the unhappy interlude of the three white elephants of the ZUMWALT class, it will be at the following rate in FY10-15: 1-2-1-2-1-2, for a total of nine in six years, and similar rates in the years ahead until 2040 (US shipbuilding programmes may have been modified since, but not radically changed).

With four destroyers currently under construction, all likely to be in service by 2012, China so far does not compare too badly.

Also, the US has been building burkes for decades. They know what they get and how to use them (and definitely how to build them). China only has two 052Cs, so it's still all very new. Building four at the same time seems quite impressive from nigh nothing.

The first Arleigh Burke DDG, the USS Arleigh Burke, DDG-51, was commissioned for service on July 4th 1991. The latest Arleigh Burke, a Flight II A (meaning she has the two helo hangar and latest greatest upgrades, etc.) is the USS Spruance, DDG-111, launched in June of this year, 2010. With the significant upgrades and changes, some even call the Flight IIA a different class, the Oscar Austin Class...but that is not official. There are 33 of the Flight IIAs, and plans call for at least ten more.

But to date, that's 61 very powerful and effective DDGs in the space of 19 years. A very impressive build rate over a long period. An average of just over 3.2 DDGs a year, sustained for almost twenty years.
