In fact quite disppoint with PLAN this time. But I hope after launching few more DD52C, they will move towards a bigger platform with Mark 41 VLS style combine launcher.

After seeing the long awaited CJ-10 cruise missiles. I thought it will be logical PLAN shall be moving towards hot launch box multi purpose launcher.

This added by the fact PLAN CV program is very slow. Having a CJ-10 launching capable DDG platform becomes more critical to move in line with China status as a world big player.

You people are so ungrateful. If PLAN decided to wait for 052D with that VLS you people wanted then what is there to talk about in the destroyer thread for the next 5 years:coffee:?

I totally agree with you. But the want for a modern destroyer may not be met by the reality at hand. Chinese technological and military industry is still behind the West, and while it is catching up relatively rapidly and it has taken huge strides with indigenous tech, perhaps they just havn't mastered hot launched VLS yet, let alone a naval version of a CJ10. Personally it would be great to see CJ10 deployed on PLAN ships and submarines. That would multiply PLAN's force projection capabilities by many fold. Alternatively, a smalelr version of CJ10 would do as well. Perhaps a naval variant is under development? Seeing that the land variant is already in service, I don't think it will be too long now to see a naval variant.

But at the moment, PLAN needs modern platforms. 052C is the leading destroyer design available to China. The 052D may not be ready for production - and we should not stress too much about this. What we should stress about is the fact that there are still a dozen or so obsolete Ludas needing desperate replacement.

I agree. china really needs modern ships in quantity in order to replace its aging fleet. In adition, i think that a big reason why we are not seeing a bigger and more capable ship, its because of china´s crucial military tech bottleneck: propulsion tech.

I thought that China had obtained manufacturing rights to the UGT-25000/DN-80. If this is the case propulsion should not be a problem. You need a larger displacement and/or more speed, then use 4 GT's in a COGAG arrangement instead of the 052C's current CODOG layout. You sacrifice fuel efficiency, but you get to build a faster (both burst and sustained speed), bigger, and quieter ship.

They have hot-launch VLS on all the 054/As, I think we can consider that a relatively mature technology by now.

Er... sorry for all the excitment, I have been looking through at the encircled area of Mao's post sometime back. True, that look abit like the rotary launcher, but that is at the back of the ship (granted that is a rotary launcher), there is no indication of whatever is in the front.

This new 052C might be carrying two type of launchers. One is hot launch VLS and another is the cold launch rotary VLS (just my two cents). And the reason might be simple... so that they could actually test out the hot launch launcher on a destroyer of 052C class and let the technology mature. Maybe in 5 or 6 years time, when the technology is fully matured then they will fully phase in this technology in the 052D destroyer.

I am calling this PS.

The upper structure hasn't been painted grey yet from older pics taken while the ship was outside and it says imaginary pics in the upper right corner.
