Re: DDG 052C Thread

Do they actually have training missiles? The use cold missiles for certain tests, but its just a missile without a live warhead. you would never fire a missile, live or not, at one of your own vessels. The kinetic energy alone would wreck massive damage. And even if there was some system for avoiding a direct hit, a malfunction would mean disaster. I`ve seen training torpedoes, and the main point of them is that you can salvage them afterwards. They also have low speed and cannot inflict serious damage.

This has to be a simulation.

Either that, or they are sinking hulks with live or dud missiles. I would like more information myself.

Well it's not unusual to use training missiles (drones) it tests. If I'm correct USN specs for those tests are that the missile has to finally bypass the "target" by at least one mile. I remember a TV report about the german Navy testing their RAM-system, targets were drones aiming at the ship, or at least passing it close by. The first RIM missed ..., the second scored a hit.
I don't know how far the chinese got it that area, but building remotly controlled drones for such tests shouldn't be too dificult.

Yes, you use drones or target missiles to test CIWS, but this is in very controlled conditions. You just dont fire missiles at each other. And if it is true about ecm and chaff, then the missiles isn`t drones, but has active seekers. You can possibly program them to go to one side of target, but with ecm...
I still think this is sim..

Re: DDG 052C Thread

The article described "170 fires missiles against 171" and so on...052C class dosen't carry drones...This is just highly blue-eyed (or should I say red;) ) report of the new destroyers which apparently are worth of the news even when doing normal simulation training. I'm not minimalizing it, I know all simulation is fundamental part of all military training, but you shouldn't make any assumptions based on this....For example we simulated alot of anti-tank firing with our D-30s, and we always, ALWAYS destroyed the tanks;)
