Whatever it is, it doesn't really look very big to me. It looks kinda narrow-ish, perhaps some 16 meters in width. Now i'm not saying it is a 054a, nor am i saying it is not, but it does look like something frigate-sized.

That looks like a warship. Looking at its proportions, it resembles HMS Daring. The superstructure looks like it's designed to hold up a very high radar mast.

That is supposedly a new destroyer, it has been posted here a number of times but these are the best pictures we have seen to date, the designation being thrown around is 052D. Unfortunately, because of the angles at which the photos are taken it is very difficult to work out what exactly we are looking at. This set of photos makes it look like the superstructure is quite a way forward, but it could just be a result of perspective- or it could be something other than a destroyer.

The large bow sonar dome certainly indicates a destroyer. The forward part of the ship bears a strong resemblance to 052C.

There is really nothing very surprising in that Jiangnan resumes destroyer construction after its relocation to Changxing island. A 2009 Ukrainian press report stated that China had ordered two sets of gas turbines, so at present one should probably not expect more than two.

Whilst it is correct that there were further orders for Gas Turbines and that the superstructure has at least a superficial resemblance to the 052C the 'bow dome' as you call it does by no means indicate a destroyer. In fact bulbous bow domes are fairly standard elements or marine architecture whether they carry sonars or not.

Are they indeed? I would never have imagined that. Are they also normally divided into a red-leaded upper half and a differently coloured lower half?

Yes they are, they help with hydrodynamic performance and thus reduce fuel consumption. The colour difference would not be at all surprising, vessels often have one colour above the waterline and one below. Furthermore it could simply be the colour the manufacturer painted it- bulbous bows usually being made in seperate machine shops.

That is not to say that it is not a sonar dome, it most probably is if we follow the logic that this ship is a destroyer, but the presence of a bulbous bow does not immediately mean sonar.
