Re: DDG 052C Thread

It would be nice to have some higher quality photos, at the moment all we can see is a large silhouette that is suggestive of a warship in its outline. Assuming that it is a DDG it does not show any details of the (potential) systems or armament.

If this is a new DDG then what is really impressive is how many shipbuilding programmes the PLAN is running simultaneously, we have the new 071, Yuan B, 054A, the work on Varyag and this. Except for the USN it is difficult to find another navy undertaking such a comprehensive programme and with such speed.

welcome to china hahaha. jokes aside if you ask me i think this is definitely a warship of some kind. firstly because its too long and narrow and straight at the sides to be a civilian ship. secondly you can see a second superstructure at the back of the ship, something which you dont usually find in a civilian ship.

Re: DDG 052C Thread

Probably should be a 052D. I doubt they would build something the size of the 052C with the limitations on the hull size, now that they've presumably worked out the kinks in the 052C's battle management system and now can stuff more VLS's onto the hull.

Looks like another 054A to me.

Not inconceivable at this stage, all we can tell is that it looks like a warship, either a frigate or a destroyer. Until we get something that is not just a silhouette and shows some fittings we wont really know what we are looking at.

I doubt it, JN has been building destroyers, not 054As. Switching things up wouldn't make any sense.

Would if they wanted to increase frigate production. And I merely said it was not impossible, not that it is likely.

Here's post-processed pic, the outline of the secondary superstructure seems to indicate that this ship is unlike either the 054A or the 052C.

In fact, it looks a lot like the CG pics on this page:

No idea if the CG pics are right tho, it could be a more incremental design.

Looks interesting, excellent job by the person who did the picture processing, the vessel has 052C lineage in it though you are right that the rear superstructure is different. I do not think that it looks like the CG in your link though.

Well I was looking primarily at two things. First is the proximity between the two superstructures. In this photo it appears to be closer than on 052C's, but that could just be the angle the pic was taken. Second is how far up the second superstructure rises above the upper "layer". This second point appears more definitive, especially given the angle of the shot. This picture was taken from a fairly low and close vantage point, which tends to magnify more proximal structures, yet the more distal second superstructure still appears to jut out fairly high.

Either way, it's obvious that the ship is far from being finished. If both superstructures are built higher(it's almost a given that the frontal one will get quite a bit higher), then it might start resembling the CG more.

Here's an 052C from a similar angle(similar height, but a bit wider angle):
