re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

I think the HQ-10 installed on the 52D may be the 18 cell rather than the 24 cell variant.

HQ-10 18 cells, does it have reload?

Liaoning has 4 x 18 cell units doesn't it? Didn't 892 already test a 24 cell system, at this stage I don't think we can say whether Type 052D will get 18 or 24 cell system as both are tested

052B missile interception video

Was watching a documentary about PLAN history (Filmed for 60th Anniversary of PLAN), and I saw a clip showing type 052B launching it's it missiles in interception during Peace Mission 2005. Looks pretty cool, I don't believe it has been posted here before.
Starts at 13:20, though there are lots of ads in the beginning, as usual for Chinese video sites. After that is a clip from Artillary practice during Peace-09 exercise in Pakistan.

I don't see any problem to switch 18 cells with 24 cells or even 36 cells in the future :D

i think the 18 cell one shown here has reloader. Not sure where 052D is going to have have space for that on top of the hangar. but technically, it's possible for them to have 18 cell one without reloadedr if they wanted to. My guess is probably the 24 cell one.

I think 052D has moved the hangar to the centre so maybe there isn't room for a reloader. Or there could be reloader if the aft section is deep enough.

At the current rate of production JN is doing 2-3 DDG per year, now if this rate continues I see the following

By 2020 that's in 7 years time I coint 18-19 DDG, that's in addition to the 6 Type 052C and 3 Type 052D, total DDG tally 27-28 units or about 1/3 of the USN total

Thats a big achievement, obviously wether this happens or not remain to be seen and would require a sustained production, something which is not completely impossible after the Type 056 and Type 054A runs, and this is just Type 052C/D vs Arleigh Burkes

Best CG I have seen of the Type 052D yet.

Very impressive destroyer.

I'm sorry but I don't see where that's coming from, PJ-38 is far more stealthy.

By the way, PJ38 is not merely a reverse engineered AK130. I hate to quote wikipedia, but the 052D wiki entry actually has a very nice detailed section regarding the main gun, where it claims the AK130 was reverse engineered successfully years ago, but the a gene for gene clone of a cold war gun did not meet PLAN requirements, so they went back to the drawing board to improve it, and came back with PJ-38, basically a modernized AK-130 able to fire a variety of extended and guided rounds.

It's all anecdotal (unless you want to go through the sources and verify them) but let's use our critical thinking and ask if any of this sounds unreasonable, and consider if the reverse of this would be reasonable.

Seems to be a PLAN fetish of some sort. Maybe used by sailors to clean the turret?

I don't understand why people claim that PJ-38 is reverse engineered of AK-130. I don't see any similarity of the both at all except their barrels size, really.
