re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

i think the 18 cell one shown here has reloader. Not sure where 052D is going to have have space for that on top of the hangar. but technically, it's possible for them to have 18 cell one without reloadedr if they wanted to. My guess is probably the 24 cell one.

From what I can see, they moved the rear CIWS station from the front of the hanger, as was on the 052C, back to the rear of the hanger structure, to where the last revolver VLS was on the 052C. If they had enough deck penetration for a VLS there, they certainly have enough internal space for a reload mechanism for the FL3000 launcher.

I think the available hanger space has also been significantly increased as a result of the move and deletion of the second revolver VLS so it should be able to accommodate two medium helicopters now.

If they did go with the 18 round launcher over the 24, my guess would be that the primary reason was the size of the reload mechanism below and the impact that would have on hanger space for helicopters. If having a 24 round launcher and auto reload meant the difference between being able to embark small or medium helicopters in the hanger, I think going with the slightly smaller launcher but being able to house larger helicopters would be easily the better choice.

re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

I don't understand why people claim that PJ-38 is reverse engineered of AK-130. I don't see any similarity of the both at all except their barrels size, really.

To be fair it is the barrel and loading/firing mechanism which is important. At the very least, PJ-38 does look visually similar, at least the barrel does. Similar cooling mechanism etc.
The similarity (or difference in this case) of gun casings are not indicative of how similar guns are and whether they share a lineage.

Looks like APAR is installed, and proportions of the HQ-10 makes me think 24 cell

I think it's not a stretch to wonder if 052D's PAR will be the largest installed on any surface combatant to date, certainly looks bigger than SPY-1 and type 346 on 052C. I wish we had reliable dimensions, to compare with SPY-3 and AMDR.

Having a reload mechanism on FL3000 will greatly increase the number of SAM available. Not sure how long it would take to reload 18 HQ-10 :) .. anybody ?

That will also take up additional space which Type052D could ill afford to spare give that she already maximise all the space . Probably your suggestion will be taken for Type055 ;)

As for manual reloading of HQ-10 will depend on sea state and efficiency of the seaman.
