That kind of detection range for such a small RCS (0.008m^2 would probably be what a modern stealth fighter RCS is, going by various open source citations), is very, very impressive I think.

If SAPARS can emulate that kind of performance (considering this study was done about a decade before we first saw it)... quite impressive indeed. and 052D's radar should only improve upon type 346.

even in the most perfect situation for f35, if one uses golf ball rcs for measurement, that would equate to 80-90 km detection range. that is actually not horrible. It would mean that with a 2 or more radars (apart from each other) working together one should be able to get fairly regular spikes of RCS activity from even greater distances. knowing where a possible threat is helps, i guess, even if one still can't properly engage it at such distances (and it is firing its missiles unimpeded from such distances)

Should be enough for directing fighters in the air around, to help them find the enemy. Or it could be used to guide a salvo of long ranged ARH SAMs to the general area and hope one of them will approach an enemy to enough of a distance so it can guide itself to target.

perhaps it was figurative statement rather than descriptive

F-35 would then only need to fly at pigeon speed and together with the flock to disappear into the clutter

With 052D in the pipeline plus a newer design likely, it is expected that they will start leaking more details about the 052C.

Like some said some information about chinese weapon can be found if you know where to look for in the chinese part of the internet.

The documents says the radar has Chinese characteristics. Won't that upset people ?
