alright, I figured after seeing someone post the HQ-9 article on CDF by Kanwa, I'd reply it here, I actually got the issue first, but my respect for PKF's articles aren't the greatest.


so basically, I think the main issue here is the part about engagement range of 7 to 15 km against cruise missile at a minimum height of 25 m and system reaction time of 15 s. Now, one must look at S-300 numbers to get an idea. Generally, 25 m is the minimum height stated by most of these long range export SAMs. For S-300, this website indicate the reaction time of PMU1 to be 22 s. So, that's not bad and you certainly can't expect same performance for 052C's AD system, which has different radar/seeker technology/combat system and probably missile. The other thing is that this is export version. It's hard to imagine the domestic version is like this too, so I would say that the part about China still important PMU2 due to its longer range to be false.

The other interesting thing that it mentioned is Belarus supplied the targeting system for HQ-16, HQ-17 and HQ-18. That's of course if you believe in Kanwa.

for 169, it uses a very mature AShM for ASuw. It has a new type of Sea searching radar that can achieve OTH attack against opposing ships. It can fire concurrently against multiple targets. It uses one main gun against sea, air and shore targets. The CIWS is a very effective weapon for terminal defense. In ASuw, it has many sets of sonar system (see, I think this indicates 052B has TAS), has strong underwater search and detection ability. Can effectively engage underwater targets.

A lot of same comments. It says that 171 has a new type of radar for aerial detection, guidance and processing targets. It is in a leading position even internationally. It's ASuW system is also very advance. It uses a new sea searching radar that can provide targeting for AShM to several hundred km away. It can guide new AShM to achieve OTH attack. For ASW, it also has acoustic warfare system. It has torpedo, ASW rocekt. With helicopter, it can do effective detecting and attack against underwater target.

for the replenishment shp. Not saying too much. It say that it's displacement is near 30,000 tonnes. Can concurrently provide supply for 3 ships and 1 helicopter. Can also carry 1 helo. This mission uses 2 naval helicopter.

one thing I want to look at is the displacement given here. For 052B, we've seen 5850, 5580 and 5000-5999 listed here. They also said length is 155.5 m, beam is 17.2 m and draft is probably 6 m.
Now, compare this to 051B, Length - 153 meter, Beam - 16.5 meters, Draft - 6 meters, full displacement is 6500. What gives?
and for additional reference in Sov, length 156.5 m, Beam - 17.2 m, Draft 6 m. standard displacement is listed as 6500 ton and full displacement is listed at 8350 ton

I guess this is from the 891 ship as it only has one 6 round VLS.

oooh its hot launched, for some reason I thought naval HQ-9 was cold launched.

That's still cold launched. I haven't seen any fire from the missile itself and there seems to be fragments around. The smoke and fragments could be from the cold gas canister. If you are hot launched, the VLS should have slots around the sides which should be venting hot gas. The design here has nothing like that.

How come all six lids are closed when they just ejected the missile out of the container? Do VLS lids suppose to close that fast?

It may not be a lid but rather something similar but underneath the missile. Like a bottom lid that literally pushes the missile out like a piston. Looking at the pictures again, I conclude that indeed the smoke is from the missile itself but the picture caught it at the moment it just ignited when its already outside of the tube. The VLS it launched from is somewhere around 10 to 11 o'clock from the viewer's position. I examined the possible PS angle but concluded its not because the plume has shadows that cast upon the deck and even on the VLS itself.

i think the photo is real too. The missile just simply shoots off into the air breaking the lid on top, thus shortens the time it takes to mechanically opening up the lid. As well it simplified the mechanics on the lid.
