Easy.

HHQ-9 -> HQ-9 -> Patriot and S-300.

Patriot uses phase array and the access channel was probably from the Israelis, something the Americans have accused the Israelis. The S-300 also uses phase array.

The Kvant AESA is very far from an AEGIS, MPQ-53, Flap Lid or Tombstone. Its more akin to what the Israelis called their 'Green Pine'.

The 052C radar similarity to AEGIS is only very superficial (the external use of four faced phase arrays on the superstructure). Technically that means nothing about the way the radars operate except that it has sensor and data fusion and a full 360 degree stationary coverage.

If the Ukrainians contributed to HQ-9 and HHQ-9 technologies, the technologies would have to be S-300 related, not Kvant related. If Kvant technologies are taught to the Chinese, the end product is more likely something closer to Green Pine.

not sure whether I should over-react to these pictures or not. But it shows the 891 test ship taking off the Sea Eagle search radar + all the FCRs. In one of the pictures, even the radar that I think is a new MFR is removed. But on the side, you see a radar that looks like the one on 052C put back on there. Not too exciting, except that I think it looks bigger than the on 052C. When I first looked at it, I thought it was as big as tombstone on 051C.

Any thoughts?

As a note, on previous photos of 891, it has that area open for a radar of this size, but no radar was installed on there. I don't know how recent this photo is, but I can only imagine that they finished the testing they were doing with the last set of radar + missiles.

Thanks tphuang for the pics, on the last pic I was amazed it really looked big. Could it be really be that big, there's also a possibility that it might be an optical illusion. But most importantly I feel China will field a new warship to succeed the 052C.

Interesting. If they plan on increasing the radar size, they might need an entirely new hull to accommodate the whole system.

I'm not sure if the PAR radar that was tested for the 052C was ever removed from the 891. From what I know, its been there before the 052C was launched.

this is from august of last year, it wasn't there. it's been that way from all the photos i saw last year.

偶是听老大们说的，脓们表冤枉欧，偶是纯洁的。

土甲鱼的第三次性高潮即将来临，这次高潮将持续5年左右，大中小型各色饺子若干。
好像大的小的都有，花色品种齐全，小黑鱼和新黑鱼都将露面

空军的不太懂，也不清楚，海军是确确实实要大发展了，从今年下半年开始，一直持续下去。

子肥鱼：
国产HM是大连造，052D（姑且这么称吧）MS是首批4条，而且往后的建造数目很大。

新常规黑鱼江南长兴肯定有份~~通驱明年也要开工鸟~~

总结一下

今年054A的5号舰,6号舰为结束曲

明年还有6艘054A,054B以后再看

明年还有4艘052D目标驱逐舰开工,估计要看图要等到后年

It looks like this post should be revisited. It's predictions have been pretty good so far.

Can somebody please translate the "cryptic statements" into plain English please? What's MS?

Oh and it says that the carrier will begin construction next year.

It also says that there will be a new nuclear sub next year too.

I always think that the nuclear subs will be built at a pace of 1 or 2 a year. If you look at Huludong shipyard to the north of the bay, they built two enormous sized hangers in the last few years or so. That looks to me like a serious building program.

Probably because it may be too heavy, too expensive, and given that the array has been remounted on the test ship, probably still has maturity issues. Wait until they got v2.0 of the system running, and down the line they would need to produce a downscaled version for a frigate. At the same time, the current Fregat/Orekh layout just happens to be not a bad one at all, and it actually has certain advantages over fixed PAR layouts.
