And what would China apologize for? Vietnam chose the USSR and wanted to expand its borders, China slapped it around and thats it. Actions have consequences. Next time their leaders should be more careful about trying to antagonise their super-sized neighbor
Vietnamese industry is fundamentally different from what China had in 1995-2005. The country has a GDP to trade ratio of 186%! So everything is about imports and exports in Vietnam. I wouldn't go American and claim that trade is a bad thing but it is obvious that their domestic manufacturing and markets are small as of 2022.
It is safe to say China will have no alternatives for a decade to come. It was never just about low wages which a lot of governments and corporations are learning hard way right now.
That's dehumanization. And according to the UN charter, countries aren't entitled to security. It is true that the threat of violence trumps everything but having past grievances live for no reason brings nothing either. I don't think China would lose anything from apologizing. It would definitely soften some Vietnamese though.

Vietnam as a nation and culture defines itself by oedipally trying to destroy and be China- no different to Japanese nationalists or Showa Imperialists.
All they had to do was copy China the same way Australia copies america and they’d be much better off. Instead, like Poland wanting to start ww3 to get one over Russia, Vietnamese nationalists based their economic policy off spite and only now are coming to terms with acknowledging China as their Big Brother.

Kinda less meaningful these days since Western politicians are openly visiting Taiwan these days and Taiwanese ministers also visit Western countries regularly. This did not happen before. So, Taiwan under DPP has had a massive boost in terms of "diplomatic presence" in the last few years. Ofcourse it relates to how anti-China the west has become and they do not really care about offending Beijing anymore, they actually want to offend Beijing as much as they can.
China is pretty much helpless to stop Taiwan's elevation in the west. The more powerful China becomes, the more the west wants to contain and destroy China, the more they support Taiwan in every way they can. The only response China has is doing military drills.
Economic sanctions no longer works against the West because they actually WANT to decouple from China. They welcome any sanction or economic response from China because they can simply parade it as more Chinese aggression against the west and demonize China even further.
Its a death spiral that keeps going towards some kind of Taiwan strait Crisis. Cause unless China stop the constant western support and semi-recognition of Taiwan, soon we will see Taiwan Representative Offices in a lot of western countries and even more Western Arms and even troops. They will not stop Salami Slicing.
China will have to more towards some kind of massive military retaliation, cause that is the only option they have left to stop this death spiral.
The only way to stop this is to create such a massive fear in the minds of the Taiwanese that they are the ones that would discourage the west, not the other way around. That is the only way remaining.
But if this military crisis does not work and only escalates towards even more western support for Taiwan, then I think we are looking at the start of the "THE GREAT TAIWAN WAR"

Once again mostly right in direction but not all the (bold) details. The West does NOT welcome any economic sanctions from China; as a matter of fact it is the West finding out that their sanctions do not work against China. When China sanctions Canadian/Australian/Lithuanian goods, you can hear them squeal from the moon! The US started its trade war because it wanted China to import more from America to cut the deficit. They say they want decoupling but as with Western culture, the words are not connected with actions. Their trade with China increases in action, but in words, all Western politicians must sound nasty to China. And since Westerners expect their politicians to lie, that never becomes a real problem.
In terms of creating fear in Taiwan, that's already being done. Word is the veggie lady proposed to travel herself rather than accept another visit from the US. She's probably taken notice that China took Pelosi's trip and turned it into a permanent Chinese military presence over the Taiwan Strait and isn't too keen to see what China wants to normalize next. Straight up war over the ROC would scare half of them to death before the fighting even started LOL
The west is weakening by the day and increased diplomatic presence with the west is becoming much less meaningful. Even the EU is balking at trade talks with Taiwan. Politicians may say one thing but the flow of money is something else entirely. The US is even talking about destroying Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. Who is dumb enough to invest in Taiwan as the risk grows everyday of losing everything despite the lip service politicians of being “supportive”. As China becomes more powerful the actual cost of confronting China becomes even greater until in the end they are no longer able to bear the costs.

Threats to invade China really just exposes how much on the back foot America is now on.
Contrary to what US will admit, it was never confident in its ability to take over Taiwan. There were many good chances for America to pull off their version of the crimea annexation, when China was not militarised at all and the only thing China could do to stop an invasion would be to lob tactical nukes at US formations.
Even then, America didn't dare to invade.
So that they're betting their future on this, in such a late hour when China has military parity, reeks of desparation.
As long as China can prevent a pearl harbor style surprise attack against the navy followed by a fait accompli landing of US invaders on its island, moves which America was never confident of pulling off even again Jiang Zemin's China, they'll never be able to do anything.
