This is all very normal for us. Even though I do not watch too many movies, Michelle Yeo being a big star in Hong Kong, played all the roles, kung fu punched and kicked everyone, and had a very illustrious career, even before she went to Hollywood.

South Korea is a basket case of demographics. China should learn from its mistakes and use it as a lesson for the future. But beyond that, why try to save those who don’t want to be saved?

I wanted to say that this kind of sanctions not tried before. so it is premature to proclaim this or that country can function well.
Once full scope of sanctions are imposed permanently. maintaining high disposable income of population will become difficult. It will be harder to pay for foreign vacations or business trips cheaply. and much more high skilled population will have to maintain full cycle Civil aviation and than maintenance of airports will become burden with much less foreign flights. Alot of countries that are intermediary will price gouge. Soviets could travel and so are Iranian people . so even those comparison are invalid when you consider low disposable income of those societies. Population used to higher income will feel the world change around them.
Russia survive relatively well due to integrated CIS. where flights and infrastructure are all interconnected. than relation with wider Mideast. without Mideast do you think Indians can buy Russian oil ? when Putin announce that he is increasing size of his military by 500,000 or start of this operation i am sure he has good idea of demographics. and when population gets wealthy its much harder to recruit. and when that wealthy population suffer due to sanctions they will surely want to avoid military service which they will blame for situation. now think about any other country that can manage it over long term. prior decades examples not apply as we are dealing with different time periods and demographics as longer life expectancy will have its own burden on system.
Semiconductors dont take that much workers. if Israel population increase by few millions it can surely create ASML and make world further depend on it. Israel did not have that relationship with Soviets and Arabs. so it had to pay greater attention to arms than anything else but still it got the earliest Intel R&D and chip fabrication.
