I don't think China intends to engage with that old witch at all. They'll rather let her leave and then commit a military operation, allowing America a clear path to back down from a conflict they would have no involvement in.
Yeah I jokingly said earlier in the thread that China maybe gave the choice for if Taiwan will be forcefully or peacefully unified with the Mainland. Land in Taiwan it will be forceful reunification, skip Taiwan and it will be a peaceful. They probably told this also to taiwanese government probably why the Taiwan government wanted Pelosi to not visit.

But yeah only time will tell, what Chinas action will be.

General sentiment on chinese social media is disappointment as expected

Some funny comments I saw described it as watching a game of chinese men's football team

Some are saying they're starting to prefer putin's style of doing things

Some are saying they're so angry they can't fall asleep

Understandable, personally also disappointed for now, although I do realize we're far from done and much more can happen this week and the weeks to come.

Whether it was the 1996 crisis, cuban crisis or others, they weren't just some sudden few hours of event and then done, no they were quite a bit longer and took more time.

So we might really just be past the starting point of whatever is gonna happen.

I think you guys are feeling disappointed too early.

I believe there will be more drama in the coming days. The way Chinese people do things, it's gonna be like a 500 episode Taiwanese soap opera.

It won't be a BOOM! and then the crisis is over.

Bring your popcorn and nachos, it's gonna be more like a marathon TV drama than a 5-minute porn video.

The issue is that tangible and substantive matters is far less important on the global stage than perception is. Pelosi's visit changes nothing substantively, but it will make it seem like the PRC is unwilling to act on the public state. This will embolden the likes of the US, the UK, Australia, and India to push issues with China more confrontationally in the future. This will give ammunition and legitimacy to the pro-secessionist parties in Taiwan, since the perception of a threat from the PLA is significantly less than it had been before this crisis.

Tomorrow, China will still be the same China. They'll have the same airplanes, warships, submarines, missile forces, and carriers and they'll be building more. The appearance of China in popular perception, on the other hand, will suffer a massive blow from this fiasco. If the PRC does nothing drastic then they will inevitably pay a price for this in their unification efforts. It doesn't matter how strong China is. If the PLA looks weak or looks unwilling to start a conflict, then that makes peaceful reunification less likely and a violent one a much greater risk.
Perception doesn’t change the fact that the USA has a collapsing economy with no sign of recovery. If perception really helped, the how come the situation in Ukraine is completely in Russias favor while the west has all the support of it media. If one sees this as a critical loss of China right now, then they are playing into the hands of the USA that Pelosi’s arrival is somehow a massive victory. Does this somehow enable her to escape from investigations at home due to inside trading or is this going to somehow get people to like her more in the USA. All I can see is that more and more people will care less and less about optics and more and more about the cost of living at home. One thing to note, this situation has shown how reliant Taiwan is for the USA to defend the island as opposed to having any real inmate defence so really, let’s wait and see how things play out. If China does completely nothing in regards to her arrival, then maybe their are problems that need to be ironed out, but if China uses this as a reason to basically turn up the dials on the US economy and proceed further with the destruction of the dollar, then in the end, what has her trip accomplished other then a glorified photo op.

Well cars might not be a luxury where he lives. If you have to have a car to go to work, then it's a necessary investment.

I'm just thankful I can work from home.
Cars are not that impressive, who knows how many of those cars are bought with credit or a loan.
People should also not forgot that in the west the second hand market pool of used cars is huge and goes back decades.
