General sentiment on chinese social media is disappointment as expected
Some funny comments I saw described it as watching a game of chinese men's football team
Some are saying they're starting to prefer putin's style of doing things
Some are saying they're so angry they can't fall asleep
Logically, we all (or most of us) knew that shooting down that plane is too rash a move, and we knew that it would be unlike the PLA to act that way. We knew that pushing the conflict into the future benefits China. But emotionally, we all wanted to see that witch dead in a firey blaze and every single US military asset in the region to follow. Personally, I wished to wake up this morning and find that this is it and the PLA had gone all out retaking the ROC, but rationally, I knew it was next to impossible. I was still disappointed nonetheless.
We had our cool and calculated side, but our primal side is disappointed and angry, very much. I could have reasoned to myself over and over again, correctly coming to the conclusion that China should wait but damn all logic, if I had piloted an armed fighter in the sky, I would have shot down Pelosi without hesitation when it came time. I might even Wang Wei it if I wasn't armed.
But however disappointed we get over something we logically would not and should not happen, the best that we can do as Chinese people is to give our talents to China and to train our next generation in the skills and fields that are being critically contended while imbuing them with the patriotic qualities so these skills end up in the right place. And last but not least, we must be united under the leadership of the CCP and never be the sports team that plays a game of Smack-the-Head-Coach whenever a play doesn't work out. Unity is the biggest strength for a large population.
And I expect China to pull a show of force, take some economic and diplomatic measures, do a little damage but not too much because as the West has shown us through their continued mistakes, those are double-bladed swords to be careful with... So I know I'll be disappointed again when Pelosi leaves alive and then again then the PLA doesn't take over the ROC in the following week. There must be emotional suffering in order to cement life-long dedication as only the greatest pressure can forge the hardest diamonds. America has provided this pressure for us, so we fight on, much luckier than the generations before us who fought for China and sometimes died for China despite having no hope of seeing victory in their lifetimes.
