Here's a Nature article breaking down the casualty risks from falling rocket bodies by country. 41% of the total casualty risk is from US rockets while China is tied with Europe at 17% each. If some unlucky person on Earth is killed or injured by falling rocket debris, it is far more likely for that rocket to be American than Chinese.

Here is IMF's projections for growths in 2022 and 2023. I think they overestimated America's growth rate in 2022.

This could be somewhat more concerning than what the article headline is saying. Pelosi is not going to Taiwan alone. She has invited democrats and republicans to join her along the visit. Those joining with her will go to Taiwan because they won’t disobey a high ranking and influential politican. Maybe this is more Neocon than Mid terms politics.

Sources familiar with the speaker's plans say she is planning to visit in the coming weeks as part of a broader trip to Asia and has invited both Democrats and Republicans to accompany her. If she goes, she would be the first House speaker to visit in a quarter century.

If it goes through then there will be a major breakdown in relations and a big escalation in tension. It would be a huge scandal if the US military does not escort the jet carrying multiple congress members to Taipei. Likewise it would be a huge humiliation if China does not intercept them and allow US jets to fly across the skies of Taipei unopposed.
