Movies in General

On the side note, apparently Kim and friends are denouncing the movie "The Interview" as an act of war. I won't be surprised that if the movie doesn't get pulled down, he'll launch a missile or 2, or detonate another nuke just to make a point. These days I feel he's doing all of this to make himself look tough and scary in front of his panels of senior old men in his committees just so they won't think of plotting against him again. He's doing all this to keep his PR image for domestic politic purposes rather than the international(he should know by now the world don't give 2 cents about him and his fantasy land), because this movie is a very sensitive political tool that really hurt his legitimacy and attack what he's trying to build(the stature of his personality and regime. On a flip note, this also shows how unstable NK is; reliance on personality cult and fist of terror to maintain stability and control)

It will be interesting if he actually send assassins to go after Seth and partner.

Personally, the moment I heard about this movie I knew NK would probably declare it an act of war or something like that. Whether fatty kim actually does anything specifically about this movie, is another matter. Lots of bluster and hot air, very little substance from him. But it would be hilarious if WWIII starts because of a Seth Rogen and James Franco movie. Think of the future history books.

Also, there was a little skepticism on reddit about whether it was actually NK directly making the statement, as apparently the spokesperson was a past defector or something. I'm not too sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was propaganda from anti-North Korea elements. I wouldn't be surprised it was from the people behind the movie to get free advertising. Look at one of the actors, James Franco, and his last movie where he played a Physical Ed teacher having an affair with his student. James Franco is known for publicity stunts for his projects and for that movie he was tweeting to an underage girl asking to meet her somewhere to which he got a lot of negative publicity. In Hollywood they believe any publicity even bad is good publicity.

Well BBC has it Coming From North Korean State Media

North Korea threatens war on US over Kim Jong-un movie

North Korea has promised "merciless" retaliation if a forthcoming Hollywood movie about killing Kim Jong-un is released, say agencies.
A North Korean foreign ministry spokesman said in state media that the movie's release would be an "act of war".
He did not mention the title, but a Hollywood movie called The Interview with a similar plot is due in October.
Hollywood actors James Franco and Seth Rogen star in the action-comedy film.
Rogen, who is also one of the directors of The Interview, has since responded on Twitter saying: "People don't usually wanna kill me for one of my movies until after they've paid 12 bucks for it."
Franco and Rogen play a talkshow host and his producer who are invited to interview Kim Jong-un, and are subsequently recruited by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to assassinate the leader.
The film's teaser trailer, posted on Youtube, shows a lookalike actor playing Kim Jong-un, as well as fight scenes involving what appear to be North Korean tanks and helicopters, and a nuclear missile launch.
The North Korea spokesman was quoted by the state KCNA news agency as saying: "Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated."
He added that the "reckless US provocative insanity" of mobilising a "gangster filmmaker" to challenge the North's leadership was triggering "a gust of hatred and rage" among North Korean people and soldiers.
"If the US administration allows and defends the showing of the film, a merciless counter-measure will be taken," the spokesman was quoted as saying.
Apparent evidence emerged last week supporting claims that North Korea is further developing its missile technology. Some experts said they had identified a new anti-ship cruise missile shown in a North Korean propaganda film. Other observers were more sceptical.
North Korea is holding three Americans in custody. The latest to be detained is said to be a tourist named Jeffrey Edward Fowle who reportedly left a Bible at a hotel.
Rogen recently said he was inspired by journalists' trips to North Korea.
He told Yahoo: "People have the hypothetical discussion about how journalists have access to the world's most dangerous people, and they hypothetically would be in a good situation to assassinate them."
He added that the film was originally about meeting Kim Jong-il, but they had to revise the script when he died in 2011 and his son Kim Jong-un took power.

North Korean foreign ministry denounces U.S. film The Interview as ‘terrorism’
North Korea officially respond to action-comedy film, saying those who produced it are "gangster-like scoundrels"
June 25th, 2014
Hamish Macdonald

A spokesman for North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Wednesday via the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) condemning the U.S. film “The Interview” as ‘terrorism’.

The statement, which represents the first time North Korea has officially commented on the action-comedy, strongly criticized the film’s storyline, which focuses largely on the attempted assassination of Kim Jong Un.

“We can never forgive their explicit terrorist, provocative deed of producing a film whereby they publicly mirrored the aspiration to assassinate our highest political leader in order to decimate the key philosophy of our military and people and to get rid of our system,” the spokesman said in Korean, calling those who produced the film “gangster-like scoundrels.”

“The international community cannot disguise disturbance after watching the movie trailer that portrays Americans, the best example of terrorists, mocking and assassinating our Highest Dignity (Kim Jong Un) in broad daylight of the United States,” the statement added.

While the “The Interview” is scheduled to be released in October, North Korea’s foreign ministry spokesman said that North Korea would retaliate if the film is shown.

“If the U.S. Government condones the screening of the film, they will have their consequences. Those criminals who mocked our leader and committed hostile crimes against our People’s Republic will be punished according to the law—wherever they hide on this globe,” the spokesman said.

North Korea often interprets negative representations of its leadership as a significant provocation. In 2012 North Korean state media called Australian paper the Brisbane Metro “petty thieves” for describing it as “naughty Korea”.

But surprisingly, North Korea did not issue a statement in 2004 regarding action-comedy film, “Team America: World Police”, in which Kim Jong Il and North Korea were repeatedly mocked.

“The Interview” was condemned last Friday by an unofficial spokesman of North Korea. Executive director of The Centre for North Korea-U.S. Peace Kim Myong-chol told the Telegraph, ”There is a special irony in this storyline as it shows the desperation of the U.S. government and American society.”

Film producer, writer and actor Seth Rogen had responded to some of Kim’s comments on Twitter saying, “Apparently Kim Jong Un Plans on watching #TheInterview. I hope he likes it!”

Where's the threat of military strikes over this movie I've seen reported? That's the nonsense propaganda I'm talking about. North Korea being upset is no different from people upset that Hugo Chavez showed disrespect to President Bush. I even saw a news report on TV say North Korea threatened to use nukes over this.

Did Al Qaeda actually say that they rejected ISIS because they were too extreme even for them? I bet that didn't come from Al Qaeda and someone who just wanted to use it for political purposes or ratings. If Al Qaeda did reject ISIS, I bet it wasn't anything about them being too extreme. What has Al Qaeda done that's not extreme?

Look at how Kanwa through Pinkov's misinformation started the world media to report his nonsense that China wants Su-35s but IP theft is a concern from the Russians. The world media ran with that lie as official.

your words mace, I have shown multiple reports that source the reports to North Korean state media. Not to a Hollywood actor, nor a so called detector. Now then "Countermeasures" "Retaliation" can mean whatever one likes. I do doubt that there will be direct military action over this.
However Historically the North Koreans have show there displeasure with acts of violence like bombings, before and I wouldn't be surprised if they did something nasty over this.
Team America was released when Kim Jong Il was well seated in power. By contrastKim Jong Un is young still establishing his reigns.

The current state has a large number of workers in China and Russia and if they see this film poking fun at the demigod's grandson it can become a threat, if only in the mind of Kim Jong Un.
Ruler ship of North Korea is based on circles of fear. The outer circle who fear the word of Kim as those of a vengeful god, the outer middle who fear the the knock at the door signaling there disappearance, the inner circle who fears that they may find displeasure of the Leadership and be merged and the very core the Kims and those who really run the whole show who fear that one day they may have to answer for what they have done. As long as the people fear then order is maintained.

Now as to ISIS they were disavowed because of leadership issues. They failed to tow the soft sell AQ was wanting. That could be seen as to extreme for AQ. Its a matter of interpretation.

and the other thing well there its fair game.

Yeah those are my words and it doesn't change anything. I didn't say they wouldn't be upset about it. Where are the threats of military action I've been seeing reported? Where's the death threat to Seth Rogen? Your official news source on North Korea is suspect. I don't think it's the North Korean government or North Koreans behind it. Take a look at the journalists' names.

Would a country that reports Kim Jong Ill scored 11 holes-in-one in a golf game admit Pyongyang's influence is diminishing?

Perhaps hilarious to contemplate...but definitely not hilarious if it actually happened.

Anyhow, I think it is simply a big deal about nothing.

For Heaven's Sake...it's a comedy movie. Hollywood makes fun of and takes shot at everything over time.

I am sure they will be happy if the NK despot is not happy about it and blusters all over the place. They figure that will just bring more people into the theaters in the west...and they are probably right.

For me...three of us (myself, one of my sons, and a good friend) are all going to see the new Transformer's movie tomorrow. I'm sure we will really enjoy it.
