4 in Chinese is sounded "Si." It has the same sound of "death"--Si. So 4 in Chinese is not a "lucky number."
If someone is telling me that the original planned DDG 140 has been changed to 150, I will believe so (but not all of them).

Thanks a lot, that was very helpful. And meaning that 4 + 4 + 4 new destroyers are being built (150-153, 172-175 - I think that must be the numbers - 154-157).

You have reported earlier that 521-524 will transfer to 3 Frigate Squadron at Ningde. I guess 564-567 will stay at Yulin, but as an independent squadron.

Additional comments:

I can only make it 4 052D: 154-157.

I am pleased that 165 and 166 are said to go to 10 Destroyer Flotilla (replacing the non-modernised 051's), as I have long expected that move.

The two 054A's in 6 Destroyer Flotilla have long been reported to be 547 and 550. It is anybody's guess what pennant numbers the additional two 054A's (nos. 17 and 18) 10 Destroyer Flotilla will have.

Of course 053H3 will go to naval districts: 3 Ind Frigate Squadron (521-524 in future) at Ningde is actually subordinated to Fujian Support Base. 1 Frigate Squadron (564-567) at Yulin will likely be subordinated to Beihai Naval District.

... but even in the list given, there are a whole bunch of '4's, not to mention, you know, 054. The PLA types strike me as fairly unsuperstitious and good for them.

In Asia, the sticker of being superstitious is ROKN (they really avoid the "4"), not so much for the PLAN though.

It is also my impression that PLA is deliberately un-superstitious, in marked contrast to Taiwan.

The Kidd class DDG are 1801, 1802, 1803 and 1805, the Perry class 1101, 1103, 1105, 1106 , etc., the La Fayette class 1202, 1203, 1205, 1206, 1207, 1208.

But it is only 04 that is avoided. 554, 614, 934 are evidently OK.

You do aware what F-22 being nicknamed to 爱抚娘娘 means to (better not translate here), right? Curse didn't work at a confident armed force, not US, and you bet not the PLA created by Mao Zedong.

Dining table chit-chat is one thing, the working spirit of a highly motivated armed forces is another.
