As a side note the cameraman for the live feed and the camera view/scene changers are incredibly incompetent lmao. Blurry shots, cameras positioned incorrectly, poor framing, rushed intro scenes, cuts to the wrong camera, and many more mistakes.

- 1:15:45 LCH Prachand fires more rockets, misses most of the targets with the barrage lmao. I think 3-5 missiles (of the 48 lmao) actually came close. Also I think those explosions were faked too. If you go by it frame by frame (in Youtube use the colon and period buttons on the keyboard to do so) you can see that the targets just mysteriously explode despite there being nothing exploding close enough to trigger a detonation.

In theory, decoupling Kaveri from Tejas should not have been a problem. In practice it was a problem, because it marked the end of serious development effort on Kaveri. Rather than an exhortation to get better, it was an excuse to give up. To this day, India still lacks flying engine testbed and transonic/supersonic wind tunnel facilities. One has sympathy for the common complaint that funds miraculously appear for foreign acquisitions on a scale that is simply unfathomable for domestic development efforts with uncertain returns. China used foreign technology acquisitions to bolster domestic technology pathways. India seems to think it can use foreign acquisitions to substitute for a lack of domestic investment. Predictably, this has not worked and will continue to not work.
The broader underlying failure is that as designed the aircraft had narrow design margins and was always overweight, such that only advanced foreign engines offered any prospect of achieving performance requirements. This was not written in stone. Many fighter aircraft have been designed to operate with engines less advanced and/or performant than F404. The mistake was in failing to match aircraft requirements and design characteristics with a realistic appraisal of what indigenous industry could achieve. This undoubtedly owed in part to the idea that, oh well, if it doesn't work out we will just go with the foreign engine. And so it has come to pass. Really, the entire LCA project should've aimed at a far lower technical baseline than it did.
