Good ol' Bill Sweetman doing what he does best, putting the boot into F35:

Sweetman is a one trick pony with an agenda, and his vaunted 6th generation Gripen has been taking years longer than it should. A re-engined Gripen with a new Radar that has taken over a decade to produce and even Saab is openly disappointed at the lack of interest in Bill's favorite fighter. Meanwhile all the countries like Romania, and Hungary that the Gripen should have been "ideal" for going with F-35s.
Bill can end his career complaining about F-35 but his baby lost, and the F-35 is still around. I never found the man to be honest which was a boon to the F-35 because its main detractor was also not trustworthy. he made very bizarre "tongue in cheek" style British quips that were designed to show his cleverness but typically aged very poorly.
If Bill had managed to stay somewhat unbiased and kept it professional I'm sure he would have done better against F-35, but here he is on X reading and highlighting things he didn't even write himself, like anyone else on the internet
meanwhile we know what 6th generations are shaping up to be, and its not reengined 1980s light fighters that finally got into service in the 1990s before needing a nearly immediate redesign and update.

Countries chose alliance, and until recently Sweden wasn't even NATO, while being completely west-controlled.
Gripen E doing alright for what it is. Also, Hungary keeps them.

That's a lot of personal attacks rather than anything on subject matter, but given recent successes of F-35 v a bunch of drones (what was it, 3.5 out of 23 for 0.5 billion in the air?), I frankly wonder whether the path that 6th generation is emerging to be will be as straightforward as people seem.

The F-35 was the crucial part of one of the most impressive air wars since 1991. The 12 day war of Israel against Iran.

The F-35 was the crucial part of one of the most impressive air wars since 1991. The 12 day war of Israel against Iran.
It wasn't a war finished by an actual victory, though, despite the Israeli unique (and, frankly, unreasonable) success.
Even in this, absolute case(one shall hope and strive for, but never plan for), it ended up as another stalemate of stand off "war of the cities". And very large part of Israel even holding out in this war is result of boring, barely visible work of dozens of mostly american fighters, largely denying Iran its drone offensive.

As was Balakot. I.e. stand off attrition after a bright beginning (where traditional west-styled strike package failed, leading to a stalemate).

Low altitude drone warfare is paramount, and aircraft unable to fight this battle are effectively not even contesting aerial superiority.

It doesn't really defend Gripen - as it is not any better than F-35 in this usecase(cheaper/easier to maintain - sure, but swedes were equally blind; frankly, speaks very positively about USAF). But it really, really puts into question value of stalwart commitment to F-35. It isn't just amuzlingly badly executed program at this point.
It was long sunce unable to truly become joint solution, and since 2022 the situation detoriated a lot.
