No i mean why didnt they go for russian engines from the start.
I am assuming it be relatively faster? Somehow pakistan via china route keeps receiving the Russian engines(unless they are being made in China?) for the jf17, even the newer block3 variants got them
They didn't go for Russian engines because they thought that American ones were "better". India has an underlying attitude that Western technology is just better than Russia tech, and so they'll go for the former whenever there's a choice. It's why they made the insane choice to go with 5.56mm ammunition for the INSAS.
To be fair, American engines have longer lifespans than Russian ones, so there is some long term advantage there. But it also makes India vulnerable to American diplomatic pressure, so it seems like a terrible tradeoff. Then again, since when was the Indian military known for making good decisions?
It would be some RD-33 derivative. Which Russia thus far has had no issues supplying Pakistan with.
With MiG-35 production stopped that production line is operating below capacity.
It's one thing to fulfill existing contracts. But setting up a new production for India, and implementing all the changes that India is obviously going to demand? That might not turn out very well.
