I think the most puzzling part was why he went to China/why did China let him have a high profile visit. Though China didn't let him visit Beijing so clearly China was also hesitant. CCTV's has a female Syria reporter 王薇薇（@）who claimed that Syria's economy was already in the gutters (partly due to poor policy, and partly due to the quality of people left in Syria) and Chinese businessperson mostly pulled out last year already. She fled Aleppo a few days ago and now she just left Damascus.
Bread and circus, economy drives everything, Syria needed China to develop, Chinese economic assistance is arguably more important than Russia during peacetime, but China need a stable country to work with and freezing the war without finishing the job precluded that.
If Erdogan wants to continue on his Ottoman project, he is going to go after the US-backed Kurds, then Lebanon, then Iraq, and later on, Egypt. The US and Israel are not gonna allow him to become too powerful. Russia might just play behind the shadows for awhile, and Iran will try to intervene in Lebanon and Iraq. If he expands his Pan-Turkic Empire agenda to Xinjiang once again, he will also have China to contend with.

(JCPOA without Arab signature) They didnot learn from 1980s Saddam where much less sophisticated Arabs fought for 8 years to destroy and flee the educated class of Iran. Now the super sophisticated Arabs are using Israelis, Russians and Turks to deal with Iran.
You have to wonder what kind of society the US is becoming.
Syria will become a completed failed country with no hope whatsoever from a failed country. It's hard to predict who will benefit from such a failed state. BTW, it seems that all the US and the West can do nowadays is to make countries fail.

They fought civil war but was wealthy realitive to Europe because of surplus of land in an agrian economy, they were somewhat poor during the Great Depression but still arguable least poor relative to rest of the world, and was able to launch socialist New Deal to fix it. Even in the 70s with civil rights, Vietnam and oil shock, they were still more well off than everyone else
