Tariffs as high as Trump propose will make people in the US as poorer as developing countries and probably revive the hyperinflationary trend of the last years, so buckle up buttercup, is going be a wild ride.

unnecessary. they can always just not use Chinese technology. global south is rising and has actual goods. don't want their paper.

China should be ready, the US ruling class see this as their last chance of window for a full court press to crush China's economic and technological development, never to let China rise again if succeeded. Either that or for Chinese leadership to agree to self imposed containment in face of all the unreasonable demands that will be upcoming.

Don't underestimate a desperate beast's will to shore up her hegemony by any means. The world is never about fairness to begin with, I hope China dont forget past lesson and soften up in hope of reconciliation.

I was seriously reading this until I see "... Taiwan Straights...", then I can no longer take him seriously. But I though, perhaps he meant Straights as in gender. But a Plan B that involves heteronormative individuals is way too multi-dimensional chess for me. At that point I just gave up...

You talk as though Biden hasnt been trying to do exactly that for last 4 years. Its not about desire, its about ability, America does not have the ability stop China, Trump's difference with Biden is only in how much damage he can do to the US itself in his failed attempt (see COVID) and thats what makes Trump the prefered candidate for China.

Also if tariffs are remotely relevant you wouldnt have forgoten 2018 tariffs are ALL still in place, the trade war never ended, America just lost, and if Trump doubles down they'll lose even more badly, Americans will be even less able to affford anythibg, and you'll again forget it happened in 4 years.

Honestly the worst Trump can do right now economically is to actually end the tech war and remove all export restrictions, I dont think Chinese companies will forget the risk but some might ignore it out of convenience, and that will slow down growth in China's own tech industry.

More proof even the supposed elites of the Anglos cannot do basic maths. In 2023 Chinese exports to the U.S. totalled US$501bn, while China has a US$17.795T GDP. So total Chinese exports to America was only 2.815% of GDP. And a trade war is meant to knock 2.4% off China’s GDP. In 2025, when American exports will be a markedly smaller percentage of Chinese GDP than 2023. Sure.

China can stop all sales to America while not reducing imports by 1 cent and it still won’t result in a 2.4% drop in Chinese GDP. But take all Chinese products off of American shelves and see how many weeks they go before their entire way of life starts to implode.

China can win the trade war merely by telling the Americans, ‘You know what? Forget about price, I’m not fucking selling you a single screw any more.’ And just ban all exports to America.

That’s the brutal truth of how overmatched America is this time around. China has spent the last 6 years basically gearing up for round 2 while America has done essentially nothing other than virtue signalling and slogan shouting.

I don’t think China will play in such a crude way, it’s just a demonstration of how much escalation dominance China has.
