Not quite since it does not necessarily measure distance.
A compound eye can provide a wide range of view, about half of a sphere when the CMOS sensors are laid out properly. With this ultra wide field of view, tracking moving objects can easily be done by connecting all the sensor into a possessor and mapping out which sensor is detecting the object.It's better than a lidar since it has no moving parts.

Possible but it looks too big to fit into a small diameter short range AAM.
The blue coating on the lens gives us a hint of it's purpose.
Just to clarify on my previous message, this picture of an alleged chinese phased array light radar is exactly the same picture as in the link above, which is a 2014 official article of a US army high energy laser technology demonstrator. That is, the picture is not a photonic radar, and not even chinese. It is a HEL technology demonstrator from the US.

I doubt there is a report on the discovery or invention of gunpowder. But we cannot doubt that some Chinese invented the gun. The oldest European picture of a gun is from 1325 while I once saw a photo in the magazine Technology and Culture of a very similar gun depicted in a temple built in 1198. And you don't find a gun lying about before someone invented it.

Wait a minute. The Chinese "discovered" gunpowder? You mean there is natural gunpowder existing in the world, which you can simply dig out of the ground and use?? You need to point me to one of those gunpowder mines so that I can get some quick bucks...
Gunpowder is a mixture of ingredients. The Chinese alchemists figured out the optimal composition of various components, which gives the max bang, so to speak. That is an invention.
