Z-20 (all variants) thread

...however it's not a direct copy in the sense like J11 variants vs the SU27 where it was initially built under license and then they made incremental improvements on later variants such as better avionics, composites etc.

Its funny you mention the Su-27 and its derivatives like the J-11 because that is exactly the family tree I was thinking of. I happened to be just going through the threads here I looked at the Z-20 which then made wonder if you could fit into the S-70/UH-60 family tree in some way.

The Z20 is slightly bigger than the S70 and a few other external components are different. The J11 however is pretty much identical to the SU27 from.a design standpoint.
More like fraternal twins but the Z20/S70 are more like brothers if you want to use familial analogies.

Fly by wire retrofitting has been underway with S-70/H60 for a while.
the StealthHawk wreck in Islamabad had 5 blades.
These features as such are retrofitable as such, not sure these are features that are clearly able to be to define it as unique. The biggest differences are going to go into the tail and fuselage to make it a little bigger. Basically Z20 started with the designers looking at S70 and asking how they could evolve it.
Kind like taking a Ferrari and using it to roadmap yourself a super car.

Just a nice image, nothing more.

Much like how the H-6K looks similar from the outside to the Tu-16 and yet is completely different on the inside, so is this helicopter.
This is a helicopter built with XXIst century technology based on the Blackhawk's airframe. Internally it shares little. The engines aren't the same, and it has fly by wire. It uses composite blades with more area and higher powered engines to operate better at high altitude.

Just FYI, UH-60M has featured composite spar rotor blades

. How they compare in detail to the design of Z-20's rotor blades is something I will leave to more qualified readers. The analogy with ongoing H-6 development seems reasonable.
