Ok so WZ-10 operates in 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th aviation regiments and also now 4th?

And WZ-19 operates in 2nd, 8th and 9th aviation regiments

So in a Span of just a few years we have seen almost 100+ attack helicopters!

The first picture is that of a WZ-19 but the second picture is that of a WZ-10. The cockpit is shaped differently and the WZ-19 doesn't have a gun turret. Its strange to me that China would build a AH without a main gun. Here is a picture of the WZ-19 as seen from underneath.

I wonder that myself. An AH w/o a gun is a BIG BIG mistake. What were they thinking?

Z-19 is more of a scout helicopter like the Kawasaki OH-1. Putting a chain gun on a scout helicopter is somewhat excessive, basically makes the dedicated attack helicopter, the Z-10, redundant.

The mast mounted radar now makes the Z-19's overall layout a lot more logical. Presuming they're networked with and can share targeting information with Z-10's, they act as scouts identifying targets of interest and passing on the targeting info onto the dedicated attack helo's (Z-10's), negating the need for a (heavy) chain gun, instead relying on their small size, stealth and nap of the earth flight profile.

"WZ" means "armed helicopter" in Chinese, they don't distinguish "OH" and "AH" type like in USA.

WZ-19 is mainly an armed scout chopper, it has a support role for attack. But the main role for WZ-19 is NOT attack, unlike the dedicated attack helicopter WZ-10.

So in western terms, WZ-19 is better designated like "OH-19", whereas WZ-10 is more of an "AH-10". But in China, they are both called "WZ", simple!

Just found Huitong's picture of Z-10 LH94101 at Tongxian, so that is confirmed.

8 x 12, that is almost 100...

Edit: Well, 108, since it appears that this same 10 Regt has also got a squadron of Z-19...

i must say i can't any examples where a scout helicopter or even a light attack helicopter had a mast mounted radar. This is a first, and it is a bit perplexing.

I expected a scout helo to have mast mounted electrooptical sensors, but not radar. I expected to find mast mounted radar on z-10, but even though it is older helo than z19, it didnt get one, but its younger brother did. Strange.

I guess that may point out that z19 isnt so much a scout helo as it is light attack helo. Or maybe it really is devised to work in tandem with z10, but that seems too complicated. no one tried that before.
