during the zhuhai airshow, a poster appear in the exhibition showing 90mm unguide rocket and laser guide round .this allow the missile to compliment the HJ-10 ATGM(or AR-1)

They've been working on that for years, and if Z-10 is forced to use inferior engine as of now, that means China have yet to make the need breakthrough in terms of high-performance turbine engine.

It always comes down to engine issue...

If everything goes according to plan then the WZ-16 turboshaft engine will go into mass production in 2014. The WZ-16 will be a significant improvement over the WZ-9 (1800 shp vs 1350 shp) so after 2015 we can see Z-10's equipped with these engines and perhabs after that we will see a newer and heavier designed AH coming out of China. I admitt that the situation with the WZ-9 turboshafts is not ideal but the Z-10 is still a decent medium weight AH.

I am suprised at the amount of telecast coverage of WZ-10. I guess PLA is really happy of this chopper. Probably the fact, its functioning very well , up to expectation and every parts of it are domestic produced.

China could have build a 10 ton attack helicopter like the Apachè or a 10 ton transport helicopter like the Black Hawk had China just imported the Klimov TV3 117 series turboshaft engines from the Ukraine. Russia imports them for the Mi-28 Havoc and other types of helicopters. Ukraine being a much more reliable defence partner than Russia would have been more than happy to sell. And China could have struck a deal with the Ukraine for 100% tech transfer on these engines. Like the J-10 that uses a Russian engine or the Type 99 tanks that uses a German designed engine or the Type 052C and the type 054A that uses engines from France, Germany and the Ukraïne. But i suppose that China thinks that helicopters aren't that important strategically and there for less urgent compared to fighter jets, destroyers, frigates and tanks that they can wait untill the domestic industry can come up with a indigenous design.

You could be correct in some sense. Helo is never a priority in PLA until the Sichuan earthquake where they realised the need of a heavy lift helo like Mi-26. Even for attack helo, I think PLA never believe they need a heavy attack chopper. I believed no new design or 10 tons attack helo will going to happen in next 5 years or decade.

From Zuhai Airshow 2012 display to so much public coverage of WZ-10 attack helo. It seems PLA is very content with just a single WZ-10 dedicated attack helo and its capabilities. WZ-10 might not be as heavily armour as apache but adequate for PLA standard or goal.
