Or it could be a general offering to the Pakistanis with them having to make the final call on Vipers or Thunderbolt through evaluation and competition. the PAF have had a small nuber of Z10's in the stable now likely they will pick up a small number of Vipers and run them through the same tests and paces. In the End based on Cost, Politics and performance hopefully more the third and first then the second the Pakistani military would make there buy.

Pak Army has been after AH-1Zs for a while, they were just not available to them till recently. More than likely the Z-10s will perform as well as expected by the Pak Army, the Attack Helos for Pak Army will likely get split in two types. Not a 50/50 split but lion share will likely be the Z-10s.

No, it's a joint development of the Ardiden family ... in China it's the WZ-16, otherwise it will be designated Ardiden 3C.

So Airbus chose to stick with PT6C for their EC175s while AVIC chose the Ardiden 3C to power their AC-352 counterpart. By any chance do you know why AVIC chose the Ardiden design? is it because of the difference between shp?

According to Turbomeco's website, the wz-16/Airden 3C turboshaft engines is able to produce between 1700-2000 shp, more powerful than PT6C engines at 1,325 kW (1,775 shp). This would be a suitable successor engine to the WZ-9 if it's going to power future Z-10s.

That instant offer of AH-1Z and the prior reluctant even speaking about AH-1Z deal, it tells you already quite a lot. They are afraid Pakistan gets to far away from US hand. With such competition and the chinese afford for this deal in giving Z-10 for free makes this entire thing most prone for bribing from all sides.

I think this has to do with the embargo of military goods since tienanmen.
The way I understand it french companies are allowed to cooperate with chinese companies to create new engines for civil projects and the chinese company can then create a "military" engine on the basis of this engine (I guess the french company might just have to pretend to be surprised about this).

But western companies can't just sell an engine for use in a military project and I guess american or canadian companies would not risk doing business the "french way".

Maybe eventually but I am sure the AH-1Z, if made readily available by the US with no strings attached, will be selected by Pakistan to immediately fulfill its gunship needs. It is a mature yet up-to-date capable design with which Pakistan has some related experience operating. The Z-10 is practically still in development and comes with a lot of uncertainties hand-in-hand with the likelihood of technology transfer and domestication.

So it depends on the strings attached?
