Amen to every bit of that Equation!

Yes indeed, an absolute hero who gave his own life to save many other lives...and even had a fore-sense of it, telling his friends that some day he would stop a suicide bomber. When the time came, he did.

In the spirit of the Pakistani people and the ones who stand for no tyranny or oppression he gave his life to save the life of others, a hero indeed he has shown the resolve some people have and the ultimate price they are willing to pay to fight terrorism of all kinds

Not enough words for this hero we need more like him

He must be given he highest national civilian award there is

Sampan, I realize that some anti-US sentiment may be fostered by the "dictatorial tone" of this present administration, and yes I realize they are heavy handed, and light on real experience, and frankly their "transparent" foreign policy is not very "intelligent". We remain however a nation that continues to practice the rule of law, to take the issue of "abusing the help", and trying to get something of value for very little, our labor laws are there to stop this kind of "exploitation". It is shameful, to make this about something other than what it has been shown to be, is simply "dishonest". While I don't presume to know all the details, and the way it was handled was SOP for this outfit and degrading, I am rather certain it was not an attempt to "recruit" intelligence "assets"!!! face palm!

I would not be so dismissive AFB, the gentleman writing the article was a senior Career Diplomat in the very service under consideration for thirty years including as Ambassador to several countries. I think that makes him a seasoned insider, not only fully aware of every trick in the book, but with contacts in the service able to brief on this very incident.
I will certainly take his opinion seriously and if it is not the truth, you may wonder what it means when the Indian Service is seriously putting it about that it is.
Problems in the US Indian relations whichever way you look at it.

You can say what you want about The Bush administrations but they had a great relationship between them and India, them and a lot of nations. The Current version of American foreign policy seems so wishy washy it boarders on a soap opera. Turning on long time allies, extended hands to long time enemies.

Sampan, I do have a few Indian friends, one who's Grandfather was an Irish missionary who died of Typhus, is the most kind and gracious human I have ever met. I also know several around Central Obamastan who own businesses, Hotels and Gas stations whom I would not trust to tell me the time of day. So I wouldn't broad brush what is obviously an official line to excuse the stingy, rather abusive behavior of this lady who overworked and underpaid her household staff, and cast the United States in a negative light, because someone whom the staffer had sought help from stood up for her civil rights. No one in this country gets by with that type of behavior when the "person steps up with allegations of that type of abuse". This present administration may have choosen to make an example of her, as they are big on civil rights. I do respect you and your opinion, but on this issue, I would say the article is a face-saver, for what is embarrassing behavior. but that is my opinion, you may see it differently.. brat

Absolutely right Asif, and though he didn't have a uniform, he is a mighty warrior in the cause of peace and honor, and he truly brings great honor to his country and people, and show the ultimate love of a truly brave heart. May he enter his Masters Rest.

It is set to become the largest rocket ever built, dwarfing the rockets that took man to the moon and paving the way for manned missions to Mars.

Nasa today reveal stunning new pictures of its SLS (Space Launch System), which will eventually be capable of lifting 130 tonnes into orbit.

The rocket will be used to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station, and to help us explore the outer reaches of the solar system.

It is even hoped the craft could play a role in manned missions to Mars, being able to launch ‘stepping stone’ bases into orbit.

‘The potential use of SLS for science will further enhance the synergy between scientific exploration and human exploration,’ said John Grunsfeld, astronaut and associate administrator for science at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

‘SLS has the promise of enabling transformational science in our exploration of the solar system and cosmos.’

Currently under construction, NASA’s Space Launch System will be the world’s most powerful launch vehicle.

Designed to enable human exploration missions to deep space destinations, including an asteroid and Mars, SLS is working toward a first launch in 2017.

For that first flight test, the rocket will be able to launch 70 metric tons (77 tons) of payload into low-Earth orbit, almost three times what the space shuttle could carry.

From there, SLS will be evolved to a configuration that will be able to carry 130 metric tons (143 tons), more weight than any rocket ever has been able to carry.

‘While many people think of the Space Launch System in terms of human exploration, SLS could have a wide application in a lot of other areas, including space science,” said Steve Creech, assistant program manager for strategy and partnerships for SLS.

‘For missions to the outer planets, for example, SLS could make it possible to do things that are currently impossible, such as sending larger scientific spacecraft with more instruments to far off destinations with reduced transit times.’

Agency scientific and engineering teams have been evaluating whether there would be potential benefits from launching deep space robotic spacecraft, such as the Europa Clipper, a proposed mission to one of Jupiter’s icy moons, on the SLS rocket, and determined the rocket would enable the spacecraft to fly direct trajectories to our solar system’s outer planets, rather than using planetary gravities to gain speed, reducing transit time compared to current launch vehicles.

n the case of the Europa Clipper, for example, the transit time would be reduced to less than half of what it would be using other launch vehicles.

‘For as long as people have been launching rockets into space, mission designers have had to work within certain limitations – a spacecraft can only be so heavy and it has to fit within a certain width,” Creech said.

‘Depending on how large you make it, it can only go so fast, which in some cases limits where you can go.

‘Today, if you want to send a mission to the outer planets, you have to be able to make it fit within that box. With SLS, we’re about to make that box much larger.

‘With the space shuttle, for example, we were able to launch missions like NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope that were about the size of a school bus.

‘With SLS, you can design a spacecraft even larger than the space shuttle that carried Hubble.

‘It’s going to open up an entirely new way of thinking about how we plan and design planetary science missions.’

‘The Space Launch System could be really game-changing for space science,” said ACO manager Reggie Alexander.

‘For some missions, it makes it much easier and quicker to carry them out.

‘A Mars sample return mission, for example, could be flown using only one rocket instead of three.

‘But for other destinations, SLS lets you do things we could only dream of before – like collecting samples from the geysers of Saturn’s moon Enceladus.’

These systems are being built now and will have their first space flight test in 2017.

Washington (AFP) - A new threat to the upcoming Winter Olympics surfaced Sunday as US lawmakers worried about attacks at the Games to be hosted by Russia.

In a video posted on a well-known jihadi forum, two men believed to have been suicide bombers in last month's deadly bombings in Volgograd speak of them -- and warned of more.

"We've prepared a present for you and all tourists who'll come over," the video says in part.

"If you hold the Olympics, you'll get a present from us for the Muslim blood that's been spilled."

The US-based SITE Monitoring Service identified the men as "purported Volgograd bombers Suleiman and Abdul Rahman."

December suicide bombings at a railway station and on a trolleybus in the southern Russian city -- which investigators have linked to suspects from the mostly Muslim republic of Dagestan -- killed 34 and injured dozens.

Islamist insurgents based in North Caucasus republics such as Dagestan who are seeking their own independent state have vowed to disrupt the Sochi Games in order to undermine Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The threats are real. They are basically calling for attacks on the Olympics. I think you're going to see attempts to do that," said Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

The Republican, in an interview from Moscow with ABC's "This Week," said Russian authorities were taking the threats seriously, deploying 100,000 security officials to erect a "ring of steel" to secure the Sochi airport, mountain trains and the Games themselves.

If there were attacks, he said, they would more likely be directed at soft targets like transportation.

The congressman added that the diplomatic security corps said it was getting good cooperation from the Russians, and noted that two dozen FBI agents were assigned to the massive sports event.

But "it could be a lot better. I want to press that while here," he added, saying he wanted to know more about emergency evacuation planning.

Another key congressman, House Intelligence Committee chairman Mike Rogers, said Russian authorities were clearly concerned about security.

"But we don't seem to be getting all of the information we need to protect our athletes in the Games," he said on CNN's "State of the Union."

Rogers, also a Republican, said the Russians' unwillingness to share information with US intelligence was "a departure of cooperation that is very concerning to me."

"So what we're finding is they aren't giving us the full story about what are the threat streams, who do we need to worry about," the lawmaker said.

"Are the terrorist groups who have had some success, are they still plotting?"

"There's a missing gap and you never want that when you're going into something, I think, as important as the Olympic Games," he added.

The Games open February 7 in Sochi, a resort city on the Black Sea coast.

Personally, I don't think anything will happen, but the possibility is always there.

No one, And I mean no one Wants a repeat of the Munich games of 1972. security at Olympic and sporting events has been tightened ever since for good reason. the Terrorist will try, have no doubt.
but Putin would extract a lot of blood in retaliation for any events not on the events agenda.

All very true, but we all know that the threat of retaliation doesn't work against extremists. We are, after all, talking about suicide bombers.

You can have as tight a security as possible, but it still can't guarantee anything. I don't think anything will happen, but if the Islamists are determined (as opposed to merely building up some hype), they could very well inflict some damage, if not at Sochi then somewhere else.
