I read some article a while ago where Macau natives get big perks from programs set out to watch out for the average local citizen from being engulfed by the gambling industry. Ironic since Macau has been notorious for nothing that has anything to do with good governance.

One good thing about China's constitutional system is that the leadership team enjoys a tenure of ten years before a change of hand takes place unlike some democracies.

(Reuters) - A Turkish navy tugboat capsized while docked for repairs at a shipyard on the Aegean coast on Monday, killing 10 people, the military said.

Eight of the dead were military personnel and two were civilian workers, local media said. Seventeen other military personnel were injured.

The tugboat, TCG Degirmendere, was being lowered into the sea after maintenance work at the Izmir shipyard when it suddenly listed to one side, taking on water, the military said in a statement.

MOSCOW, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- An An-12 cargo plane crashed en route from Novosibirsk to Irkutsk in Russia's Southern Siberia, killing at least five crew members onboard, local emergency authorities said Thursday.

"The plane en route from Novosibirsk Yeltsovka airport (in Southern Siberia) crashed during landing in Irkutsk-2 airport," an official in the emergency service of the Siberian Federal District told the Interfax news agency.

There were at least five crew members onboard the plane which belongs to an aircraft plant. They all likely have perished in the incident which took place at about 16:38 Moscow time (1238 GMT) in the territory of an army unit near the Batareinaya station of the East Siberian Railway, the emergency authorities in Irkutsk said.

Firefighters and rescuers are on their way to the scene. The cause of the crash is yet to be determined.

Re: North Korea Political Purge

C'mon let's be serious here. Do any of us seriously really think just because he's a despotic dictator, that will mean he can nuke or do whatever he wants and his staffs won't stop him? No matter how much of a messiah he is within his borders, he is only as powerful as the staffs who support them.

And all successful dictators(meaning those who can finish their reign) have this in common: they are sane, rational people, and they need the support of his senior staffs. Power only exists where people recognizes it, and the most important rule of this is that you make it attractive choice for people to recognize your power, while unappealing choice if one is to ignore your "legitimacy"(in the case of a dictator or power-seeker, they make sure disobedience is associated with fear, or the theme for the consequence). If they aren't, they couldn't see too many birthdays.

This also means something even more important: he can't go against this golden rule. If for these people, supporting him actually put themselves in danger, they will stop supporting him, or go against him in order to protect themselves. That said, he will not pull off something crazy that will send himself and all his staffs to death, since they will then be alarmed to do something about it or against him(because everyone looks after themselves. Heck if I'm one of his corrupted senior staffs and I know my life's in danger, I probably will disappear with my entire family one afternoon flying out of the country). THAT, is when you have your classic political instability where even the head of state is in serious jeopardy. This is when he acts in a way which he throws his game away and asks for his minions to turn against him. He loses his game by putting his values at risk("values" as in that they represent something critical to his instrument of power). I'm pretty sure all dictators know this golden rule the day they enter the political world.

To outsiders, dictators are just simply unpredictable to us, and to most people. However, unpredictable doesn't mean you're insane; just simply people can't guess their minds or figure out what they are about to do next. Dictators are especially specialized in micro-managing their social circles, and perhaps better at doing this than managing interstate relations. Being unpredictable is just him simply either steps ahead, or being extremely deceptive, manipulative, in order to stay above the game. So that said, we are getting our unknowns of him mixed with the stupid media reports and our lack of possessing the whole picture.

No matter how eccentric we envision Kim or his kind to be(including Hitler, Idi the Last King of Scotland LOL, Gaddafi, Hussein), we are the ones being stupid and taking a media image to our weird imaginations if we think they want to nuke the world next, or pull off some crazy sh!t "that no sane person will do", "get us all killed".

So him killing his uncle is probably just him doing housekeeping, and telling his folks what to and what not to. If his uncle is really something powerful, what we should look at is the steps and the events that had taken place up to this. That way, we can tell how far he had come into securing his power. My hypothesis is that if he executed his uncle without much foreplay(this probably is very unlikely to occur), and his uncle had never been known to the party as opposing to him, then Kim would have executed a poor move. On the other hand, if either his uncle had been known to be opposing him for many occasions, and there was a foreplay leading up to a trial and of the sort, then this lets everyone in his party to know what's going on and what to expect. Another question we should examine is the blood relations between him and this uncle. Is this uncle the father of his older brother? or his younger? Or just someone who's not important? And what's going to happen to the uncle's family? Either way, fear is for sure, but how he treats the family will send the ripple effects to the "community"(the Party).

Hmm writing this, I think I've got Stockholme Syndrome figured out haha...

Latest updates I got:

I guess what I have said earlier about that Kim did things with a reason had reaffirmed itself:

Basically this said that his uncle challenged Kim's leadership this Fall, which resulted in the uncle and his 2 staffs executed.

China Snow Dragon ice breaker to the rescue!

SYDNEY (AP) — A ship that has been trapped in thick Antarctic ice since Christmas Eve was nearing rescue on Friday, after a Chinese icebreaker named the Snow Dragon drew close to the icebound vessel.

The Russian ship MV Akademik Shokalskiy, which has been on a research expedition to Antarctica, got stuck Tuesday after a blizzard's whipping winds pushed the sea ice around the ship, freezing it in place. The ship wasn't in danger of sinking, and there were ample supplies for the 74 scientists, tourists and crew on board, but the vessel couldn't move.

Maritime authorities received the ship's distress signal on Wednesday and sent three icebreakers to assist. By Friday afternoon, China's Snow Dragon had made it as far as the edge of the sea ice surrounding the ship, 20 kilometers (12 miles) away, but still faced the tough task of getting through the dense pack ice to the paralyzed vessel.

The Snow Dragon was hoping to reach the ship by Friday evening, but changing weather conditions and the thickness of the ice could slow its progress, said Andrea Hayward-Maher, spokeswoman for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, which is coordinating the rescue.

Expedition leader Chris Turney said it may take the Snow Dragon until Saturday to break through.

"We're all just on tenterhooks at the moment, waiting to find out" how long it will take, Turney said by satellite phone. "Morale is really good."

The scientific team on board the vessel — which left New Zealand on Nov. 28 — had been recreating Australian explorer Douglas Mawson's century-old voyage to Antarctica when it became trapped. They plan to continue their expedition after they are freed, Turney said.

Passengers and crew have had to contend with blizzard conditions, including winds up to 70 kilometers per hour (40 miles per hour), but the weather had calmed considerably by Friday, Turney said.

"The blizzard we had yesterday was quite extraordinary — it's not nice when you can feel the ship shaking," he said.

Despite the interruption to the expedition, the scientists have continued their research while stuck, counting birds in the area and drilling through the ice surrounding the ship to photograph sea life.

china snow dragon ice breaker to the rescue!
fail!
only at the south pole: Icebreaker also stuck -- in ice -- heading for stranded ship
by michael martinez. Holly yan and kevin wang, cnn
updated 9:39 pm est, fri december 27, 2013
(cnn) -- south pole weather has stymied a rescue by a chinese icebreaker trying to reach an expedition vessel trapped for the past four days in frozen seas, a ship officer told cnn friday.
The chinese icebreaker xue long, or snow dragon, was just six nautical miles away from the rescue, but now it's stuck in an antarctica ice floe, too.
The chinese crew is hoping a french icebreaker 14 nautical miles away will arrive and offer relief, said zhu li, chief officer of the chinese ship.
But it's likely the french vessel astrolabe will also be slowed by the polar cap's extreme frigidity, zhu said.
Those two icebreakers -- plus a third, from australia -- were battling the planet's coldest environment in trying to reach the stranded russian ship mv akademik shokalskiy, whose 74 researchers, crew and tourists remained in good condition despite being at a frozen standstill since monday.

Morale high on ship stuck off antarctica ships headed to ice-trapped vessel
the snow dragon is in near-constant communication with the russian exploration vessel and has ample supplies of water, food and medicine -- even a helicopter -- if the ice-bound shokalskiy needed them, zhu said.
The russian expedition ship is carrying scientists and passengers led by an australian climate change professor, but they all may have to wait two more days for one or all three icebreakers to free it, said capt. Wang jiangzhong of the snow dragon.
"right now we are waiting for winds to blow ice away so we can move closer," wang told cnn. "the current ice condition is exceeding our capabilities to break through further."
the captain also acknowledged his ship may need help from the other icebreakers headed to the area if conditions deteriorate.
"we are in continual communication with the (stranded) ship," he said in a satellite phone call with cnn. "i think it's at least a form of emotional relief for them to know we are nearby to help. We know that they (passengers) are all doing well on that ship."
the aurora australis out of australia is two days from the russian ship, its captain, murray doyle, told cnn on friday.
China's state oceanic administration said the xue long sailed through an intense cyclone to reach the akademik shokalskiy sooner.
Meanwhile, spirits were high friday aboard the akademik shokalskiy.
"the vessel is fine, it's safe and everyone on board is very well," expedition leader chris turney, a professor of climate change at university of new south wales in australia told cnn. "morale is really high."
it got stuck in the ice on monday night -- 15 days after setting out on the second leg of its research trip.
According to turney, the ship was surrounded by ice up to nearly 10 feet (3 meters) thick some 100 nautical miles east of the french base dumont d'urville, about 1,500 nautical miles south of hobart, tasmania.
On christmas morning, the ship sent a satellite distress signal after conditions failed to clear.
The crew had a "great christmas" despite their situation, turney told cnn earlier. He said crew members have used the delay to get more work done.
"we've just kept the team busy," he said.
The expedition is trying to update scientific measurements taken by an australian expedition led by douglas mawson that set out in 1911.
The expedition to gauge the effects of climate change on the region began november 27. The second, and current leg of the trip, started december 8 and was scheduled to conclude with a return to new zealand on january 4.
Turney said the ship should still be back in new zealand on time.
