While not specifically an attack heli (tough some variants have a few machines guns on board) the Chinook platform is exported to multiple countries. So I'll post this bit of chopper news here :D

Well, having some .50cal and GMG inside one of those Chinooks would probably also make for a nice light gunship ...

Anyway, in other news Sikorsky has just unveiled it's new light attack helo, the S-97 Raider. Looks nice ...

Behold the newest, fastest, most badass attack helicopter in the world
Jesus Diaz, Yesterday 4:46pm

The S-97 Raider—Sikorsky new attack helicopter—is out and it is not only gorgeous. It's absolutely badass. It is based in the same technology as their X2 technology demonstrator, which broke the world helicopter speed record in 2010: 260 knots—that's 299.2mph (481.5km/h) vs the 172mph of conventional helicopters.

According to Sikorsky's Mike Miller, it "is an all-new helicopter, all-new configuration. We haven't seen something this new in 30 years." The Raider uses counter-rotating rotor blades with a push propeller on the tail. This unique combination allows it to pulverize all speed records.

Obviously, its weight is limited. This thing will not have the same kind of firepower as heavier helicopters, but it will be able to zip to any location and provide troop support faster than any other chopper.

The aircraft will not be operative in the US military just yet. In fact, only two Raiders are built. They will be tested during 2015.

in south east Asia during the Vietnam war the US Army tested the ACH47 a Chinook fitted with mini guns a grenade launcher and stub wings with missiles. It failed because it was to low and to slow kept getting shot up.

If loving this is wrong I don't want to be right. Perfect for scout attack and SF infiltration Raider is the Future. The question is, Are the worlds militaries ready to accept it? Raider as a attacker would pack ATGM or 70mm rockets and a gun pod probably a 12.7mm that makes her armed as a scout but she can carry 6 operators she is there for well suited to Rapid CASEVAC, command and control, and more. I see her as a potential UCAV and of course she is the proof of concept for the coming Defiant medium chopper

It's a light, not so expensive, easily deployable chopper, I'm also certain it'll have it's place. When the french opened up in Mali, they also had their nimble, (pre deployed?) Gazelle types up and ready in almost no time. Makes you a little bid vulnerable of course, but you're flexible.

For ATGMs, would be nice, but even those seem to be a stretch right now. Does it have a Laser Designator? The thing under the nose could potentially house one, but I'm guessing it's more likely a weather radar, FLIR, LIDAR maybe (?:)) for terrain avoidance.
That leaves TOW. Yeah could be, but I don't really think so right now.

For CASEVAC, if the guy isn't lying on a stretcher maybe; otherwise it might be difficult getting him into the thing through that door.

Infil / Exfil then, an upgrade to your little bird. A lot faster, but much cheaper than an Osprey.

Now I want to see the prototype fly.

One of the Advantages of the Design is by being a Coaxial design It's go a higher Service ceiling and speed. if you note all the images show it with closed doors the gear being retractable. That's because when in flight it's meant to be enclosed. Additionally Sikorsky has placed the exhauset

As to the sensors the Prototypes lack the intended goodies but It's intended armament are Hellfire II missiles. in the production version, the forward portion of that fairing under the nose would be a Apache Arrowhead like sensor pod electro optics and Laser designation. it would also likely carry a radar system for terrain following and collision avoidance.

For Casevac The Chopper 's hull with should be about 7 feet. meaning a single casualty could be laid down.

The Us army SOAR 160 have been using updated versions of the OH-6 Cayuse for the job of Infil/Exfil of some Special operations. SOAR use them as Attack choppers CSAR and to drop SF teams. S97 would blow the doors rotors off of OH6 and still be quieter.
